Does anyone know how strong the Biochem program is? Are the classes well taught? Are the profs accessible? Trying to decide between UMass Amherst and a smaller college with smaller class sizes. The big negative with UMass is the class sizes.
I can’t speak for the biochem program, however, I can talk about class sizes. Generally, classes are only massive freshman (and maybe sophmore) year when everyone is trying to complete their gen. ed requirements. After you have committed to a major and are starting to go into depth with that topic, class sizes drop dramatically. According to the tour I went on, by senior year, you’ll mostly be in classes with less than 20 people. If you decide to join CHC, you can opt into honors level classes and in which case, take smaller classes earlier on. (Ex: a regular Psych class with 200 people vs. the honors Psych class with 30 people).
