Biochem vs. Biophysics

What are the differences between the general curriculum and what are the different occupational paths that become available for each major?

You’ve got to be more specific. We don’t have a pure biochemistry major. Both the biology and chemistry departments offer their own biochem (+ some thing else) major. But regardless, the UCSD course catalog (available free online) lists all the course requirements for every major.

As for occupational paths, you can do pretty much the same things with both. Google has a lot of resources.

I was a biochem/chem major, did a chemistry MS, and am now thisclose to snagging my PhD. I’m officially a student of the biological sciences department, but my research is in structural biology, which is a subset of biophysics, and on any given day I do the work of a molecular biologist, biochemist, computational biologist, or disgruntled TA. Long story short, the sciences have an insane amount of overlap and everyone’s some sort of interdisciplinary scientist. College is the same – it’s a time for you to explore many different things, so take advantage of that.
