Hello everybody,

I got accepted to UCSD as my alternate major (Regular Biology). However, the only way I would consider SD is if I could pursue Bioengineering. I know the switch isn't easy, but is it possible? I have 9 AP Tests that will all be passed including.

-AP European History (4)
-AP U.S. History (5)
-AP English and Composition (4)
-AP Environmental Science (4)
-AP Psychology (IP)
-AP Calculus B/C (IP)
-AP Government and Politics (IP)
-AP Biology (IP)
-AP Literature (IP)

So... Assuming I pass all the AP classes in progress, I think I will have a good amount of credits. Will those credits serve in making the switch easier?

Sorry for boring you to death, but I believe there is more people out there with this same question. Thank you for your time.

The APs you took aren’t going to affect the switch, your grades at SD will. You would normally be able to switch if you got into the same department, but bioengr is under jacobs school of engineering. Double check this.http://www.be.ucsd.edu/

The bioengineering program at UCSD is extremely hard to get into. Only 10 people are accepted every year which means lots of people with 4.0s are rejected.

10 people a year? i dont go there (yet) but im pretty sure thats very wrong

Go and check statistics : http://registrar.ucsd.edu/ver2/dservices/thirdweek/FA11/REGBDM03.FA11.PDF

in 2011 - 168 freshmen admitted
in 2010 - 98 freshmen admitted

If your GPA after first year is 3.7 (chem 6a,b,c; phis 2a,b,c; math 20a,b,c; bild 1) you have a chance to apply.
