I have heard that Biology 180 at UW is supposedly a "weed out" class due to its difficulty. I was wondering to what extent this is true, and why this is the case? I'm really curious! Thanks in advance!

It is one of those PreMed weed-out courses because of the fact it’s just another test of, “Can you beat the curve?” You’re in a lecture of ~500 other students, with at least a third of them wanting to go to medical school. And your goal, just like most other students in the class, is to do “well” in the course. Generally, most students define doing well as getting above ~3.5 GPA in a course. But because it’s Biology 180, you have to know that to even get a 3.0 in the class, you need to beat the curve, which is typically set around 2.6-2.8. Scary stuff right there. And not to mention, you have clicker questions, quizzes every week, 2 midterms and insane PreMeds that some call “gunners.” Sleep well:)

That was extremely helpful! Now I finally understand what everyone is talking about, haha. Thank you!
