Biology Internships for Rising HS Seniors

Hi!
I'm a high school junior.

I'm currently planning my 2010 summer and looking around for internships or research opportunities.

I am extremely interested in biological/medical research, but I'm having a hard time finding internships that are NOT for the "minorities in the minorities" (I'm an Asian male).

I've looked at SIMR (at Stanford) and an internship at BU so far, but further efforts to find more programs have been fruitless.

Does anyone have ANY recommended programs?

Thanks for reading.

yeah, i’m in the exact same situation!
so far, i’ve seen BLIPS (Berkeley Lab Internships for Precollegiate Scholars), SIMR, and oh! there’s a medical program by LeadAmerica. [MEDICINE & HEALTHCARE: Youth Leadership Program](http://www.lead-america.org/conferences/cslc/medicine.asp)
it costs some money, but apparently you can fundraise to cover some of the costs.
there’s also a program at UCSF, but there is no stipend, if that’s what you’re looking for. i believe that one is only for 2011 grads. [UCSF School of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics - Division of Adolescent Medicine](http://pediatrics.medschool.ucsf.edu/youth/training/intern.aspx)

that’s all i have found so far. only SIMR met my interests, so let me know if you find any others! btw, i’ve heard that they’re really selective programs. how many do people usually apply to?

It all depends on a persons confidence, but generally people I know apply to more than 2-3.

Anyway thanks for the additional info. I’ll post links to other progs. if I find them.

@ninidsta Is LeadAmerica good? It costs a lot of money.

I’m actually not too sure about LeadAmerica. And I completely agree! $2000+ doesn’t seem like a reasonable amount of money to pay for just a few weeks. I do know a few people who went and enjoyed the program, but they didn’t seem super crazy about going again, which may mean that…they may have regretted paying so much.
