Biology major experience?

How was your experience as a biology major? I want to be a doctor or a physician assistant, so I’m worried that the rigor of this major will hurt my chances of getting into medical school/PA school rather than help it. I was thinking of majoring in biology and minoring in psychology or human development.

Any advice on how to study and get good grades for this major? Are there other majors with curriculum close to biology major, but less rigorous?

If you don’t go to medical or PA school, what do you plan to do with a Biology degree? UT pre-health professions recommends you choose a major that suits you and is something that you will use if you choose not to continue with professional school.

@gettingschooled I’m not sure, I’m trying to find a major that will prepare me well for the MCAT/professional school, yet one that will give me enough career choices if I decide not to be a doctor. I feel like a BS in biology narrows career choices, but a BSA gives some more flexibility so I might go with that.

As you explore the potential majors, keep the list of med school undergrad pre-reqs needed. Why not just major in nursing and make sure you cover the pre-reqs? You won’t make more money in any other med-ready major than nursing. And flexible hours and can work anywhere in the country or world. :open_mouth:

Side note: if you’re planning to minor while being a Natural Science student, you can’t minor in a science major such as human development and family science.

I support what @gettingschooled said as I have said the same thing when I was working during summer orientation.
My opinion is to contact upperclassmen biology majors once the school year starts.
