I’m about to enter my senior year in high school so I’ve been doing a lot of research on colleges lately. I learned that when you want to go into medicine your undergraduate major doesn’t really matter as much. A lot of people are saying that you should pick a major that you’re passionate about to keep your GPA up when it comes to applying to medical schools. Keeping this in mind, I was thinking about majoring in either psychology or biology (and I’d obviously still meet the prerequisites for med school either way). However, I’m very concerned about the job prospects that would be available to me in the slight chance that I decide to not go to medical school and I would prefer that the 4 years I spent in college wouldn’t go to waste. So I guess my question is: is it safer to major in biology or psychology if I’m pre med?
Either Biology or Psychology will need to have an advanced, post bacc, degree to gain a decent job prospect. Even that, there are overflow of Bio phds in the market, so biologists are down graded to technichines.
Engineering and computer sciences are two more employable majors with a BS degree, even some liberal arts programs are better than a bio or psy major.
A kid I know with a bio major she sold clothing in the mall for around 4 years before she got into a dental school.
