Hey everyone, I have a question. What exactly is the difference between the two. I know biology is a CBS major but how does the biology society and envrionment in CLA differ? What are the differences in classes? I am a Pre-Dent and I am curious to know the difference.

D2 applied and was accepted to CBS, CLA might end up being a better choice for her but there’s plenty of time to figure that out. You can transfer between schools, but according to the adcom I spoke with it is somewhat easier to go from CBS to CLA than vice versa.

There is a difference as to which courses you are required to take. For the BA(CLA Degree) degree, you are given a ton more flexibility versus the BS degree. For instance, if you decide to go the BS route, you will be required to take Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc Based Physics 1, Calc Based Physics 2, Statistics, computer science, and computer programming. This is only your Math/Physics/Computer requirements.

The BA degree does not require as much of you, but still gives you the flexibility of taking courses you actually like. You are only required to take Calc 1 and 1 semester of Calc Based Physics, but you can always just take Calc 2 and the other physics if you want.

There are positives and negatives to both degrees. For instance, the BA has a second language requirement. If you are planning on going into professional health care, being able to speak a second language will give you an edge on getting admitted to dental, so I would assume you would want to take advantage of it anyways!

I would also like to add that plain Biology B.S. degrees have, statistically, a smaller change of getting admitted than any other major to medical school. Assuming for a minute dental school is similar to that, it would look good to stand apart from the average applicant.

^Thanks alot man. You brought up some new bits of info that I have not yet heard. I was a little nervous about taking the BA route but you have made mee feel like it is the right choice. What year are you?

I am a freshmen, but I have been going to college since I was sixteen as a pseo student.Let me know if you have any other questions about the university.
