Biology vs. Chemistry vs. Physics

Just a thread for kicks while I'm bored.

State your favorite(s) between the 3 sciences. Explain why you like them. If you hate all 3 that's fine too. =P

For me I enjoy...

Biology- understanding the marvel at how species have evolved through time starting as single-celled organisms. For organisms to achieve the cell/genetic complexity they have today is pretty cool.

Physics- to fathom how the universe began. How the natural laws of the universe have contributed to things such as gravity. And if you think about it, physics allows you to engage in wondering questions. Does the universe have an end? Are there more universes other than ours? What will happen to the universe in time?

uh. biology is only really useful in research nowadays. history is annoying.

and yes biology pwns.

To me, the most interesting to me is physics but I have yet to take the class haha... I have to take it next year and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Without physics there would be no chemistry. With out chemistry there would be no biology.

Physics, because it is the essence of the universe's being.

Think about it. Time minus-1. Pre-Big Bang.

as of right now....
Physics>Environmental Science>Biology>Chemistry

I like chemistry the best because it is the basic understanding of what makes up our universe. You burp? There's a reaction behind it. You listen to music? There's reactions and atoms behind it. Chemistry is behind everything. It's the central science, physics describes it and it makes up everything bio is about.

biology?
hell. you can get rich off it.

Pfft. Let's see your "chemistry" work in a black hole. Or in deep, empty space.

Or in the theoretical constructs of my mind.

Let's see...it's called anti-matter, which would still fall under chemistry

Nah, the "purity" scale goes Physics -> Chemistry -> Biology.

xkcd - A Webcomic - Purity

Chemistry describes phenomena at the level above physics.

My fave's biology btw. I like *natural *systems, far more wonderfully complex than the grossly reduced systems of chemistry and physics. ;]

Biology is the easiest and most interesting.

Physics is the most applied and relevant science, and it's hard

Chemistry is hard and pointless and horrible. But I have a bad teacher.

Biology was hard for me + most boring. Too much memorization/facts.

Chem was fun last year. Now that I look back on it, not so much.

Physics is awesome. The hardest, but the one that makes the most sense. Basically a second math. My favorite.

Physics pwns.

:P Just me and my love for both realistic and abstract concepts. Biology and chemistry are cool as well, someone else is just cooler coughphysicscough.

Definitely physics. Chemistry was tedious and Biology is simply boring in quality.

Hate Physics mainly because my teacher sucked and I didn't learn anything useful.

If I had to rate the topics and not the teachers:

Biology > Chemistry > Physics

They all suck.

/thread

personally, i love biology the best, although I don't necessarily have a reason for it...maybe because genetically I'm just more prone to find bio interesting?

Chemistry by far. It was the most interesting — you get to see things blow up, change color fizz, and sometimes burn skin! I also found stoichiometry fun :P

Physics is bleh. It's an easy class to get an A in, but truly UNDERSTANDING the concepts takes some time. I don't like conceptual math much either, so this definitely isn't my favorite subject.

Biology — DEAR LORD. One of the only classes I ever had a B in the entire year (Sophomore). There's WAY too much memorization. I could never keep track of everything :(

eh, don't judge a subject based on how it's taught....
bio gets exciting once you do some real somewhat meaningful/difficult experiments instead of merely dipping a strip of paper with a line of ink in water....
try culturing a plate of eukaryotic cells or dissecting something =P

^We do both, and I found it horribly boring lol. Bio just wasn't meant to be my major :P
