Biomechatronics

Is biomechatronics a career field or field of study ? I am an incoming high school junior with a 3.9 weighted GPA. I am looking for colleges that offer biomechatronics because i would like to use that to work with prosthetics. Are there any colleges in the boston area that offer this. BU, BC, Northeastern? Could i even get into those colleges. If biomechatronics isn’t a field of study, what should i major/minor in and what would be my next steps.

Biomechantronics isn’t an undergrad field of study. It’s an interdisciplinary graduate and post-doctoral research area. It encompasses a variety of disciplines, including: neuroscience, physology, biophysics, electrical, computer, mechanical and biomedical engineering.

SInce it’s interdisciplinary, that means you’d get your PhD in a some other discipline (see above) but your graduate research would be in biomechatronics.

A quick google search shows that many universities including – MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Colorado School of Mines, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Arizona State U, North Carolina State, U Colorado–all currently have biomechantronics research programs.

If you want to pursue graduate studies in this area, a major in engineering (mech, biomed, electrical or computer), physics/applied physics, computer science, human physiology or neuroscience can all lead into this research field.
