Biomedical Engineering Major vs Biochemistry

Hi there, Trojans! I was wondering just how much more competitive Biomedical engineering is compared to biochemistry? Would I be much better off applying to biochemistry if i just want to get in/possible scholarships?

Here's a quick breakdown of my stats:
GPA: uw 3.95
Most Rigorous schedult (10 APs by time I graduate)
SAT: 770M 760CR 760 WR Single sitting
SAT II: 770 Bio M; 770 Math II
5's on Calc BC, Chem, Biology and Eng lang so far
Co-president Applied Engineering Club
Solar Cup Captain: we build a solar-powered boat. nuff' said
Science Olympiad building leader

I also have sports and other things, but its not very pertinent to either majors/science.

Bottom line: With my lean towards engineering, would it be better to apply to engineering or the less selective biochemistry? I know Viterbi majors are generally much more difficult to get into than L & S.

Seems like you could do either, I’m envious of your achievements. Bravo!

Although your Academic stats are great, don’t down play your “sports and other things.” To be able to have your stats and still be able to participate is “sports and other things” is important. It shows that you are not all about studying and USC looks for that. USC truly uses a holistic approach. Apply for want you are passionate about, it will show through and USC will see that.

You look like a good candidate with likely acceptance in either program. Read the program descriptions and pick what excites you. My D is a frosh in BME, with similar stats.
