Biotap

Bender1012, I play violin as well and am double majoring in Music and biology. Are you going to try out for the orchestra?

Jessica,

Are you going to the All-State Meet for Javelin? I’m going, so maybe I’ll see you there.

Elleyea: yes! You’re probably way better than me though, I’ve been playing piano a lot more than violin lately. But hey, we can duet! I’m always looking for people to play stuff with, all my close friends are jazz musicians :P

Bender: Ooo, duets! I always love those. I’ll most definately take you up on your offer. By the way, my name is Claire.

oh right, my name. I’m Derrick.

What year did you graduate Derrick? It is quite possible I know you (Which would be cool. All the upper-classmen I knew were awesomes)

Did anyone who still reads this go to the June 8-10 orientation? How was it? What did you do?

Deanna: Yea I went to the All State meet I did so bad though because my coach didnt let me practice all that week leading up to it. I was hurt so I didnt throw my best. What school are you from and what event did you do? I am from Durfee High School.

^^ sorry it took so long to respond back I havent been on a computer in a while since ive been busy.

Jess:
No problem. I didn’t compete at All States because I re-strained my hamstring at State Qual. I run the 400 in the spring and the 600 in the winter. And I’ve done the 800 once, which was really fun. I’m sorry you didn’t do well, what happened?

Alison: I just came back from orientation. There are a ton of boring seminars in which the same information is repeated over and over. However, there are a lot of free things at the residence fair. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes and are ready to wake up at 6.30 each morning. There’s a detailed description of the orentation on the June 8th-10 discussion board on the UMASS Amherst group, which is a lot more helpful then what I wrote.

Also if you are BioChem major theres a glich in the schedulaing system when it comes to the Chem class, but as long as you’re in ComCol and BioTAP they’ll override it for you.

And I’m from Shepherd Hill Regional.

^ Thanks! :)

Also, everyone in BioTAP takes chem together so it would affect us all, unless you’re referring to a different class.

Deanna: Well I cant really explain what happened but basically it was the lst throw of the meet and I was in 5th so I needed a big throw to go on to states. I threw it as hard as I could and then I like couldnt move my arm at all because I was in so much pain. I think I pulled a muscle in my arm or ripped something on that last throw…not really sure. I dont like to go to the doctors or anything so I never really found out…it doesnt really matter anymore so its okay.
Too bad you got hurt or I would have seen you there.
I normally run the 1000 and the 50 high hurdles indoor and then outdoors I do almost everything because my team only had about 15 girls so I got pushed around alot to different events (I was never good at running)

Hey Everyone, did anyone get their schedules yet? Here’s mine

MonWedFri: Calculus 9:05-9:55
English 10:10-11:00
MicroBiology study of AIDS and Cancer 11:15-12:05

For those who dont, here’s a little information on scheduals. We will all have Our Biology class together on tuesdays and thursdays and our biolab on thursday after noons. There is also a mandatory seminar on Monday nights 7:00-8:30 for BIOTAP students. We all have to take a math class and an english class. So depending what you got on your math placement exam and what you got in highschool, you get placed in a math class accordingly. Pretty much after that your advisor is going to say that you are going to have enough credits for one elective class. They want you to have between 12-15 credits your first semester. And if you want another bio type class, like micro biology, you’re going to really have to push your advisor to do it. They want you to have a “break from biology”. Or you could just take chem as your elective to get another requirement out of the way. Lots of the classes are full already, be aware of that.

Jessica: That stinks that that happened, especially right before a big meet. That’s a much cooler story than mine though, so that’s a plus. I hope you get better soon.

And I’ve never been good at field, my coaches actually banned me for fear of injury. But that plan backfired.

no music classes Claire?

So for all of you guys who havent gone to orientation I figured I would tell you a little bit about it in case you are interested. Well there are alot of really boring seminars and informational meetings, but the people who are presenting them are all hilarious and they made it tolerable to say the least. As for the other stuff, we played some games and had some time to just hang out but the days are pretty much packed. Scheduling was not as bad as I thought they were very understanding and they worked with me to make sure I was in the classes that I needed to be in. I had the same problem with the chem 111 (it is reserved for a certain RAP or TAP) and it is not letting SPIRE enroll you in that class so that was a pain but besides that I got everything else that I needed and it was really easy. If you have any other specific questions you can just ask and Ill try to let you know.

^^Just a heads up you have to take a writing placement exam but it is not that difficult so dont stress

hey claire, i’m taking the same microbio class too! awesomeness. also, did anyone get ap credit for chem and go into 112? just wondering.

I love my schedule. :)

Bio lecture: TuTh 9:30-10:45 AM
Bio lab: Tu 1:25-4:25 PM
BioTAP seminar: M 7:00-8:30 PM
Chem lecture: MWF 12:20-1:10 PM
Chem lab: W 2:30-5:30 PM (once every two weeks)
Linguistics (People & Their Language) lecture: MW 1:25-2:15 PM
Linguistics discussion: F 11:15-12:05 PM
Dean’s Book: F 9:05-11:00 AM

Claire: my advisor actually wanted me to take more bio and health-related classes than I wanted to; she suggested the microbio class that you’re in, as well as a few others, but I wanted to focus on gen-eds and other requirements.

Derrick: No music classes unfortunatly. I will be auditioning for the orchestra, chorus and music lessons once i get there. My advisor would not let me take any more classes and for some reason i could not take music theory.

Tal: Yay for micro biology! It looked like a really awesome class. I was so happy when i found it and it wasnt full up.

Allison: My advisor did the opposite of what your’s did. She kept pushing me to take ged ed’s. But i figured i was getting in three already so i didnt really need another one. Linguistics still sound pretty interesting. At least you’ll be getting an interesting class and a gen-ed done at the same time.

Hey guys; this is the first time I’m posting cuz I was in India for a while.
My name’s Nithin and I’m from Acton, Mass.

Anybody still lookin’ for a roomate?
