I know this is long, but if you can read through the entire thing, know that I sincerely appreciate it.
My grades are normally decent, but this semester… It’s my junior year, and the worst time for this to happen, but I pushed to be placed into a higher math class (not skipping one, just the ‘advanced’ route) and it was definitely a bad decision. I’m going to fail. As in, receive an F fail. Granted, a large portion of the c,ass will receive a D or a C, and I might (emphasis on ‘might’) be able to achieve a C, but I’m not hopeful.
This year I’m taking 5 APs, I skipped a level in Japanese, and also, the math class.
I’m looking at a number of Bs as well. Right now I have 2 As, 4 Bs, and the F. 2 of the Bs will most likely be brought up without any worry. Another is likely manageable, but will require a large amount of redoing work (Japanese, but I don’t mind. It has to be done eventually). Which would leave 5 As, one B, and an F at the end of the semester. My weighted GPA will still be about 4.05, and my UW would be a flat 3.8, which isn’t awful, except that there wold be an F on my transcript. And I would have to get straight As next semester to keep it from falling below a 3.8.
At my school, I can retake the first semester of the class my senior year and replace the grade, but I don’t know if that will happen in time for collage apps, especially considering my school starts in September so our first semester grades go out after the beginning of February.
I’ve had to reevaluate where I was thinking about applying to next year, and I’m alright with that, but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me from an outside perspective how bad this is.
