Did anyone get an email from BLIPS recently? It seems like they updated their site for people who got accepted...

Your application for the Berkeley Lab Internships for Precollegiate Scholars (BLIPS) program is still being reviewed and considered for placement. The last day offers will be made to applicants is 14 May 2010.

Thats what I received... anyone else get anything?

I also got the same letter. How did they update the site though, its looks the same to me. And does anyone know what exactly you do there, there didn’t seem to be much information on the website…

if you click “Recieved an offer?” there is new information that was not available previously, like preparation and checklists. It also gives a bit more info on what exactly you’ll be doing.

Does anyone have any updates on the acceptance? My d got the May 14 letter. I tried not to read too much into the letter but can’t stop wondering what does it mean.

None of the people I know have received any further detail from blips… I read on CC last year, someone got waitlisted and finally got told of their acceptance only a week before the program starts. Hopefully they wont pull that this year and will actually send it all on time on the 14th =/

I can’t help but wonder if some people have been accepted yet, or if they’re waiting on accepting everyone until May 14. I hope they can stick to their deadline this year!

it comes out this friday right? I’m so nervous…
but if i don’t get in i’ll just take calc d and physics after ap physics in the summer, 6 hours of classtime a day!!! :)

oh man, I’m super nervous too! I really, really want this!! oh well, we’ll see. but the week is going to go by so slowly…
6 hrs of classtime? fun? haha, well my parents making me write college essays doesnt seem so bad now!

What I’m actually more worried about is if I get in, I don’t know what they expect me to do. I don’t have my own research idea right now, are we supposed to have one??? And I haven’t programmedin C++ for almost half a year, and even then my skills aren’t probably as good as the researcher expects… Just curious pengys, what area did you apply to? Like mechanical eng, electrical eng, chemical eng…

I don’t think they’re expecting that much out of us… I mean we’re still high school students thats probably trying to get into research, or else we wouldn’t be looking for an internship if we already have good research experience.

I signed up for Chem E, Mech E, and either Chemistry or Materials… I’m not that sure. What about you guys?

My first was chem engineering, then chemistry, then something random like materials engineering, I don’t really remember
What the program is, I think, is you and your mentor come up with something to work on that pertains to their own research. I don’t think you need your own research idea.
And I know absolutely nothing about chem engineering, I’m just hoping I’ll be able to pick some of it up along the way! If not… well, my mentor won’t be very happy with me, haha
