This is the essay prompt for the Blue Book Practice Test #1:

"To change is to risk something, making us feel insecure. Not to change is a bigger risk, though we seldom feel that way. There is no choice but to change. People, however, cannot be motivated to change from the outside. All of our motivation comes from within."
Adapted from Ward Sybouts, Planning in School Administration: A Handbook

ASSIGNMENT: What motivates people to change? Plan and write and essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

I saw the prompt and I could not thing of ANYTHING to write...no books, no history...nothing. That's probably because it's summer and I definitely haven't been doing schoolwork. So what examples would you use? I have no idea.

thesis: people change because they have realizations.

two literary examples: 1. "O-Pioneers": Carl Lindstrom changes his mind about working in the city because he realizes that he is not accomplishing anything, and is too transient" 2. "God Bless You Mr. Rosewater": Eliot Rosewater decides to give away his vast family fortune to the indigent after having a realization at a mental hospital.

conclusion: these novels are very different, yet contain a common theme. Therefore, it is a pervasive theme in society.

what are your scores?, btw
I will check, and bump this post if you reply.

Money
Models get thinner and thinner (they change)...so they can get more and more $$.

Fame
Retarded baseball fans do crazy things like jumping on to the field and trying to start a fight. (they change their attitudes...this one is a little harder to use)

Success
if someone thinks having a girlfriend = success, he/she will have a girlfriend - even if they don't want one. (somewhat common with young kids)

Thanks so much! I really should start reviewing some novels for the SAT in October..blah..

Tennis1137: I took the SAT in April and got a 1940 (600CR, 620W, 720M) without any review/prep. I'm doing prep right now and after eventually completing all the problems for the first practice test, I got between a 1950 and 2200 (I suppose it would depend on the curve). Oh and I didn't do the essay and instead assumed I got around a 9/10 (I got a 10 in April)...maybe I was overestimating myself!! I'm aiming to get a 2100+ in October.
