Bmd res 5hb. Biomedical research: Essential skills and concepts

Have you taken this course before? How was it?

I am wondering the same thing except about 5HA. I’m guessing you’ve taken it already since it’s a prereq for 5HB. Any feedback?

Yes, I took both 5HA and 10H. It seems to me 5HB requires PTE# or permission.

BMD RES 5HB is very similar to 5HA. There are student presentations at the end of 5HB with pairs discussing a scientific journal article. The rest of the class is very much what you’ve seen in 5HA: two research presentations by faculty members–although new ideas have been bouncing around with cross-campus faculty presentations and Q&A. It’s an enriching class.

For a comparison between 5HA with 10H.

5HB is for students in the Biomedical Research Minor. A PTE# is distributed by the coordinator for students in the minor.

I am taking 5HA next quarter. Do you think it is doable to take it along with Chem 20B and LS 2? It’s either that or Chem 20B and 20L with 5HA. I’ll be taking a Fiat Lux too.

@TheEarlyBird: totally depends on the student and the instructors next quarter. For a first-year student, 20B and LS 2 together should already be plenty. But you can reasonably take 5HA with those in my opinion (it’s not too heavy a course). Will you be taking your first Fiat Lux? Those don’t add much work. I’ve taken three together before. If you really want, you can take all that and add 20L. It would be a lot of work, and scheduling it all together might not be possible, but it’ll be a challenging and rewarding quarter. All these classes are on the popular side, with a few being impacted. Do you really have the luxury to still be shopping for classes?

I was able to register for Chem 20B and 20L, Biomed Res 5HA, a Fiat Lux, and a GE. I wasn’t able to get a spot for LS 2 in time but I’m hoping that I can add the class during the beginning of the quarter if some people drop. I definitely don’t expect to take all the classes I signed up for at the moment. I kind of just enrolled in them and decide which ones I will have time for later. I’m just worried about 20L with Pang because I’ve heard it’s a difficult class.

20L and Pang are fair. It will seem difficult as the first chemistry lab, but after taking 30ABCL and 153L, 20L will be remembered as the time when things were simpler… Enjoy and have fun next quarter.

What about 14BL and 14CL? I am about to take them soon.

I don’t have any experience or real stories to tell about the 14 series.
