BME at Northwestern

Hey guys, I got into Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering and indicated my major as BME. However, I'm currently thinking about changing my major to something science-related in Arts & Sciences.

I'm contemplating this because of the degree of difficulty I have heard that is associated with BME. I understand that any major in college is no walk in the park, but does Northwestern have a reputation of having a ridiculously difficult BME program (i.e., Case Western where everyone starts off BME and few actually finish)? Is it highly competitive or is it a more friendly atmosphere? Do the professors know their stuff?

Also, if I do decide to change, is it a big hassle to switch colleges within Northwestern before the start of the school year? Thanks!

I'd advice you to wait if you are really interested in BME. It's not difficult to transfer between McCormick and Weinberg. But McCormick freshman start their Engineering First series from the very beginning. If you change it now and miss the first-sequence of the series, you may regret it later if you try to switch back to McCormick.

I knew couple people that thought chemE was too tough, transferred to BME, and they enjoyed it better. Apparently, it's tough but not "ridiculously difficult". But then it depends if you like bio. I am no fan of bio and for me, I'd probably have harder time in BME than chemE.
