I am an incoming freshman in the Biomedical Engineering major. I was looking through the curriculum and I noticed that I had to take O-Chem my second year. I am thinking of claiming my credit for CH 302 and lab through the AP test. Is taking CH 302 at UT really that necessary before taking O-Chem? In that would I still be able to do well in O-Chem without taking CH 302, since I am claiming the AP credit? Thanks.

There’s hardly any overlap between the two courses. I claimed AP credit for the entire year of gen chem. Going in to ochem, I’d completely forgotten everything about chemistry and even drew a Lewis structure with a positively charged chlorine connecting two carbons on my first test (that should sound stupid). But after the first couple weeks everything is brand new and you’ll be pretty much like everyone else.

Nice one man with the positively charged chlorine. So it pretty much ends up being a whole new ball game in which the first chem does not do much. Also, have you taken physical chem 1 and fundamentals of biochem? How were those classes? Thanks.
