Hey everyone, I got accepted to GW with the Board of Trustees Scholarship, amounting to $20k. The info packet I got with it was very unclear though...Is this a one-time deal, or is it renewable? Do I get that 20k each year? Also, what is this scholarship even for, merit or financial aid? Did anyone else get this package? Thanks!

Financial Aid–renewable for up to ten semesters:-) i was pleasantly surprised as well!

I got this too- for 30k :). I was also very pleasantly surprised! Here’s the info from the website:

Board of Trustees Scholarship - This grant is awarded based both on academic merit and financial need. Like the GW Guaranteed Grant this award is guaranteed for as long as the student is enrolled at GW for up to 10 semesters of full-time study. The amount will never decrease as long as the student maintains full-time status and continues to make satisfactory academic progress towards an undergraduate degree.

is the scholarship official now? because i guess they were supposed to ask you for the parent’s tax return…

On the GW website it says,
“Similar in nature to the GW Guaranteed Grant policy, the University is guaranteeing the scholarship for up to ten consecutive semesters of undergraduate enrollment. The CSS Profile and FAFSA are used to determine an estimated award. To confirm the award we will need a signed copy of the students and parents official 2008 federal tax forms (with all appropriate schedules) and W-2 statements. If needed, other documentation may be requested. Once all the necessary forms have been received and verified against the data reported on the Profile and FAFSA, we will confirm or adjust the award as appropriate. At that point, the Board of Trustees Scholarship will become official.”

I got the scholarship too, but they never asked me for the federal tax return and W-2…

Not only are scholarships renewable, the tuition at GW is locked in for up to ten semesters as well.

hey i’m international, and in the acceptance letter it said that i got an “annually renewable full-tuition presidential international scholarship.” and that was it, no where else in the package does it say exactly how much it is (literally full tuition?) and the conditions.
i was wondering if it was the same for you guys? and should i call gwu about it?

It is full tuition. But tuition does not cover room and board. It covers tuition.

Does the trustee scholarship ($20, 000) replace the grant on the original fin award found on line on day admitted or can be be used in conjunction with?

Hey everyone…I guess I might as well clear up this confusion. Upon my visit to GWU a few weeks ago, I met with an assistant Dean of Admissions and inquired about my scholarship. After looking up my files, she told me that it was indeed merit-based, not need-based at all. She told me that the B.O.T. scholarship was sometimes need-based and sometimes merit, but is often combined for most eligible candidates. I guess it all depends on the circumstance. I was also told that it is significantly leess common than the presidential scholarship, which is typically valued at $10k. Huh…

Oh, and I also need to maintain a 2.8 or higher GPA before my scholarship goes to “probationary status”.

are you serious? Do we only need a 2.8+ GPA to keep our scholarship safe??

My D has a Presidential Merit Scholarship and must maintain a 3.0.

Thanks, collegemom2b. Can anyone tell me if there is a minimum High School GPA necessary to maintain a Board of Trustees Scholarship (or is it case specific)???

Sorry for the confusion. When I spoke of a required 2.8 GPA, I was referring to a college GPA. In order to keep the scholarship whilst at GWU one needs to maintain a 2.8 otr higher. I have no idea for high school.

how safe is the bot scholarship?
i ask because i have a sister graduating next year, and afraid if my financial aid goes done the amount of scholarship will go down

3.0 for presidential. If you received notification that your BOT was renewable for x semesters, it shouldn’t go down.
