Boarding School Applicants for Entry Year: 2012

I’m applying to Andover and Exeter for sure.

Yes! I’m actually excited about school starting. 21 more days! …That and tennis (:

Same with me, rizzle! I also can’t wait to start my application! I know I’m in for a hectic year, but hopefully it will all be worth it when (fingers crossed!) I go to boarding school. I’m doing everything I can to start now - practicing really hard for the SSAT/ISEE (whichever I decide to take), going over math and Latin so that I don’t forget it before school starts, and taking pictures that can go in my photography portfolio to send to schools. But I’m so exited to actually fill out the applications! At first, I never thought my parents would let me apply, but (after much convincing) I’m allowed to, and words can’t describe my happiness!!!

You’re doing photography too? I’m starting classes soon but only after my birthday (which is in four days!) because I’m getting my camera then! Ahhh!! So excited! Same with me – I can’t wait to schedule interviews and do my applications and hope that all my hard work will pay of (:

I tried to do a photography class a few weeks ago, but I stopped after a few days. I loved actually taking the pictures (and they turned out quite well I think, for an absolute beginner!) but being in the darkroom was NOT an experience I enjoyed. shudders I don’t know why, but it terrified me! I’m not usual scared of the dark, but my hands were shaking the whole time and I started feeling so dizzy that i had to lean against the wall to prevent myself from falling. hahah anyways, I’ve been saving up my money for a digital SLR camera, and I’ve just been sending the rolls of film I used after the class to get developed for me. Which is much more efficient, I think! Happy almost-birthday!

Haha thanks! And about the SLR camera – I have to use that for my class. Are SLR camera the common cameras or are those digital cameras. I hope I told my dad to get the right camera lol.

From what I understand, an SLR camera is technically a digital camera, but it is much higher quality and has many more shutter speed settings and such. It is basically a 35mm film camera, minus the film. It’s good that you have to use those - no darkrooms for you! I can’t wait to get mine.

I see what you mean now. What kind are you getting? The one I told my dad to get isn’t an SLR one so I have to tell him otherwise before he gets it!

I’m not quite sure yet - I still need to do more research on which kind is the best in my price range. What I’m planning to do after I get my camera is take as many pictures as possible, upload them to the computer, pick my favorites, and get them printed professionally to send to schools. I don’t want to send them bad quality pictures printed from my printer - It seems… I don’t know, unprofessional or something haha

Same. But all the good ones aren’t 300 or less lol. Hopefully my dad will oblige when I tell him it’s for boarding school. Although I have to warn him on the interviews when they ask “Why do you want to send you son to boarding school” or something along the lines he doesn’t say “to get him into an ivy” lol. But I think he gets that I have to go their to release my full potential.

Yeah, that would be something my mom would say! Hahah my parents really don’t know much AT ALL about boarding school. I’ve been doing all the research and such on my own, so it’s going to be interesting to see what their interviews are like! Actually, now that I think about it, this is gonna be their interview:

Interviewer - Why do you want to send your child to boarding school?
Dad - We don’t.

God that made my laugh… Oh god… Most of my schools have a chapel and my dad is a Buddhist so when I get there and he sees the chapel he’s probably going to drive me back to California! It doesn’t matter much to me because I’m a Christian… But do u think it’ll be weird if I take photos on the interview? I want to show my friends and family back home.

Hahah oh wow, our parents are an interesting bunch! Anyways, I don’t think it will be weird if you take pictures. I’m planning on taking thousands lol, because my friends still don’t get why I want to go. They think that boarding school is either A- like Harry Potter or B- for juvenile delinquents. Hopefully when they see the campuses and the people, they’ll get a slightly better understanding of why I want to go so bad!

Haha that’s what my friends think too! God… But I’m glad they think that so I can prove them wrong. I like to argue lol.

Same with me! I love arguing. I want to join a debate team so I can foster that hobby without annoying people!

That would be funny if we put that under hobbies on the apps lol.

Hahah that would be hilarious!!! I’m totally gonna do that! (jk)

Is it weird that I want to live in a dorm so badly? Lol.

No, not at all, I can’t wait to live in a dorm! I really want to have a roommate, too, especially my first year.
