Boarding School Applicants for Entry Year: 2012

I want a roommate too. He could be my potential best friend – and who doesn’t want to live with their best friend? I want to get dorm stuff and all that lol.

yeah same, it would be like a sleepover every night! And I’m already looking at stuff and thinking, “Ooh! that would look great in a dorm”

Hello everybody…I am new to this site…& I like what I see out here. i am applying to six schools- Groton, DA, Exeter, Andover, Choate & Hotchkiss. Scheduled the interviews & tours in Oct …looking forward to this trip. Both my parents attended BS, abroad & I love listening to all their experiences…that I want it so bad for myself. Will be applying for FA.

Welcome vmiller!

vmiller - do you have any safeties? If not, it would be a great idea to find one, because even if you are a perfectly qualified applicant, there is only a slim chance that you will be accepted at these schools due to the incredibly low acceptance rates. Especially if you’re applying for financial aid!

Are you international? Because if you are and you talk about your parents studying abroad and they went to one of these schools you’d have a hook being a legacy.

wow, applying to 6 BEST schools, you must be a genius

Some people apply to BS for academics that go above and beyond what they are already being offered. In my case, the local HS that I would have attended would be just as good as a safety school…so I ONLY applied to those HADES schools. But that was just me.
If you are looking into BS and see it as your only option for the education you desire or your best option for high school…then I would suggest a safety school or two. :)

That’s why I have safties deerbri! Lol. I don’t want to go to my local high school next year… My safties are NMH and Asheville. Though I’m still skeptical about those two if I have a chance of making it in haha.

At Phillips Exeter, 47% of the kids receive financial aid. Kids from families with incomes equal to or less than $75K receive full financial aid and the expected family contribution goes up rather slowly as income rises above $75K. Kids getting FA also get generous support for books and a computer. Although Exeter is technically not need blind, practically they seem pretty darned close to it. Exeter is extraordinarily generous.

Well try to find something to look forward to just in case boarding school doesn’t work out? Like staying with your friends? Or maybe your school offers something special? I really wish that I would have instead of spazzing on March 10th…like seriously, I was a wreck.
I know someone who goes to Asheville! How many HADES are you applying to? cough, cough DEERFIELD :)

I’m applying to Deerfield! At first, I was planning to apply to 5 or 6 schools. I don’t want to have to fill out too many applications! But then I realized, that if I used the SSAT application or the Gateway to Prep one, then all the apps are basically the same. Now I’m applying to 8 schools, with 4 reaches, 2 average and 2 safeties.

Well you’re better than me, Ballerina! I only applied to 4 HADES schools and I thought that I had a lot of essays to write. So even with similar apps for your 8 schools…there’s still plenty of work for you.
And great! I’ll be a DA freshmen this fall!

None. The only ‘top tier’ schools I’m applying to are Peedie and Blair. But then again, my list changes a lot. I’ll add a couple more schools to list, interview, and then knock some off.

I wish I would have been more into the process like you guys! I decided to apply, went to the Ten Schools meeting in my area, picked the schools I wanted to apply to, and applied. No taking schools off of the list, no picking safeties or anything. :/

Nope I have no safeties since these are the only schools I would like to go to.

You should try to look around for some. There are plenty of reeeeaaalllyyyy great schools with a larger acceptance rate, and even though I consider my safeties a last resort, I would still love to go to either one of them.

I am of Indian origin but American by birth. Legacy wont apply to me here since my parents attended boarding schools in India similar to HADES. I am sure these schools do know about those schools, but that’s not part of legacy.

@ topsecret…are you referring to me - as a genius! Nope i am not. Have to say I do enjoy getting good grades & I do have ECA. I have been reading this site, & it’s true what some folks say…give it your best shot & hope for the best.

@ballerina22 Yes you are right about other good schools. I guess my last resort would be to go to a boarding school in India! They are really good too…but it’s the distance . I live on the west coast. but I guess for the bs experience I will go for it.
