Boarding School Applicants for Entry Year: 2012

YAY! WE’RE BEGINNING APPLICATIONS  And the crazy cycle begins…

I know…I didn’t know it’d be this frustrating!!

Seeing you guys post this stuff about apps is kinda making me feel old…
Haha, the frustration you’re feeling will hopefully all pay off in the end!

Glad I don’t have to go through it again! :)

Thanks  Anyways, does anybody have any idea when Andover and/or Hotchkiss’s essay topics will be available online? And Milton didn’t change their essay topics! Does anybody know if Exeter changes theirs?

Also, I’m not sure which of these are more important in getting into a boarding school… so could I have your opinions? Like, rank everything from the topics below:

1) How much financial aid you need (don’t count this in need-blind schools, please)
2) Essays; writing skills
3) Interview
4) How long you’ve done extra curriculars/sports, et cetera
5) SSAT/ISEE scores
6) Transcripts from school
7) Ethnicity
8) Teacher Reccommendations

I think POSSIBLY something like:

1) Essays (most important)
2) How long you’ve done extra curriculars
3) Interview
4) Teacher Reccommendations
5) Trascripts from school
6) How much financial aid you need
7) SSAT/ISEE scores
8) Ethnicity (not really important at all)

I’m really not sure so… >.< Thanks again!!!

i think its more like:
1)Transcripts/Standardized Testing (I think they use the ISSE/SSAT scores to to see how your school grades. Like if one student who makes straight As in math gets a 70 on the math portion, and another student who makes straight As in math gets a 99, then they know who is better at math. I think im explaining this right…)
2)Teacher Reccomendations
3)Essays
4)ECs
5)Interview
6)Financial Aid
7)Ethnicity (I think it is important because they do want a diverse class, but I don’t think it could make or break an application)

Oh right. You do have a point about your 1) and 7). I’m not gonna fill out my ethnicity in any of my apps… I hope that’s a good idea? >.<

PS: Thanks for your quick response. :)

They’re on for Andover right now.

I’ve lowered my list to six schools…

St. Andrews (DE)
Blair
Andover
Peddie
NMH
Hill

Woah we have a really similar list! I think I’m doing:
Williston Northampton
Episcopal High School
NMH
Peddie
St. Andrews DE
Choate or Andover
Either Miss Porters or Emma Willard

But you’re applying for 9th grade right? I’d be a sophomore but I may repeat ninth grade at Andover.

What schools did you apply to last year Ehphant?

Deerfield hotchkiss st Pauls and Loomis :)

Oh whoops and I applied to Exeter and Tabor

Last year? What do you think of Tabor?

Meh. It was ok. I liked it alot, however I know a student there and they aren’t very academically challenged, and that was ultimately why I decided not to attend. However it was a wonderful school, it’s just not for me. Also it was on the beach, and I hate the ocean.

Does anyone know how many freshmen apply to NMH and how many are accepted?

i know the acceptance rate is about 46% according to bs review

I’m having a problem :frowning: In the first part of Gateway to Prep School, there is a question like ‘‘Name of present school’’ and ‘‘Numbers of years attended’’. The thing is that this will be my first year in this school and it hasn’t started yet!!! So should I fill in the ‘‘Numbers of years attended’’ with ‘‘0’’? It seems kinda awkward…

Hm…that’s a toughie. I guess so…? Ask your mom? Lol.

Applyin for NMH (yeahhh!), Blair, Concord, Loomis Chaffee (maybe), Western Reserve, and Hill. :)
