I’ve read something about “first-choice letters.” Are those for re-applying applicants or newbies… May send one to a school I’m applying to…

i would only send one if your first choice school has a significantly higher acceptance rate than the others on your list. Like if Miss Porters (around 40% admit rate) were your first choice school, but you were also applying to Andover (16% admit rate?), Miss Porters would assume that it was your backup school and have no intentions of attending, you just want to have a safety for if you get rejected by Andover. If you are academically suited for Miss Porters and they would have accepted you they would put you on the wait list to protect their yield because in their mind you have little to no intention of attending. In the same scenario but flipped it would be unecessary to send a school a “first choice letter”

@Ehphant No, I haven’t toured yet but I hope to in the next 3 months! My parents have visited the school before and they said that they liked the campus.

Just scheduled all my interviews (:

I’m scheduling them soon! I’m visiting St George’s, Blair, Episcopal, Lawrenceville and Deerfield, but I’ll probably have to knock one off after visits.

I’m new with this whole BS thing. I really want to apply to a few GLADCHEMMS schools but I’m getting little support from my mom who knows next to nothing about BS. I’m basically doing this all alone.
Anyway does anyone know anything about the Hill School’s acceptance rate?

1 out of 4 applicants are admitted into the Hill School. Although low yield could make it 1 out of 3 maybe.

How’s everyone doing on the app process?

I’ve been looking through all the apps that are currently available and brainstorming ideas for all the short answer and essay questions. The one I’m furthest along in is Blair, because when their full viewbook came in the mail, I was so pumped up about it that for the next few hours I just stayed in my room working on the application! I just scheduled interviews for Deerfield and St. George’s. I’m not going to give away exact dates, but they are VERY soon! Ahhhhh I’m so nervous/exited!!!

Oh and also, what should I wear to the interview? I was thinking a skirt, blazer, and flats, or a button-down shirt and dress pants. I might get a little too hot in the dress pants though… any advice? I want to look professional and classy but not too fancy.

A good tip on what to wear to interviews is to adhere to the schools dress code. If a school doesn’t allow jeans or tank tops don’t wear them. But if a school does allow that dress it doesn’t mean you have wear to jeans.

But for guys its usually jeans or shorts if it’s not uber dressy, so if it’s at a casually dress coded school for a guy do u think it’d be okay to wear jeans and a nice shirt, or should we go all out?

@ballerina: Blouse and skirt? I’m not too big on fashion for girls. I’ll probably wear some nice pants and a dress shirt with tie and if it’s cooler probably a cardigan over.

Do you guys prefer hand written apps or online apps? I personally like writing the application myself.

I like online ones better, but only because my handwriting is atrocious! I love the physical act of writing stuff down, but it’s almost completely illegible.

I love writing it down. Feels better to me. And I just like writing down things in general. I think my handwriting is decent.

Personally, I much prefer the tangable, hand-written application. I guess the online applications are more efficient, but for some reason I just love to be able to write the on application. I’ve already started on my application for Dana Hall, and I got the packet from Blair a few days ago.

As I recall Westminster in Ct. also has a handwritten application.

how are the academics at episcopal high school in alexandria, va, as compared to andover / st pauls etc?

I don’t think the academics at Episcopal are on the same level as HADES-type schools, but they are still really good. Episcopal is (I think) a 2nd-tier school, but it would probably be regarded a lot higher if it were in New England.
