Isn’t VA a NE state?

New England is Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The part of Virginia that Episcopal is in is considered Mid-Atlantic. (Southern Virginia is the South).

Episcopal has a wider range of student abilities than St.Paul’s and Andover, but the top students do go on to the Ivy League. If it were in New England, it would have a much lower acceptance rate than its current 35% and I agree with ballerina that a lot more people would be talking about it. Of course, if it were in New Enlgand, it couldn’t be so near to DC, and that’s one of the reasons I like it so much. I heard that in years when there’s a presidential inauguration, the whole school gets to go.

Episcopal is also 100% boarding, there are no Saturday classes (!) and Juniors and Seniors can (from what I understand) go into DC on the weekends. All good things.

How many schools do most people apply to? Our placement advisor gave me a list of probably 15 schools, and the ones I thought were right for me left it narrowed down to five. This didn’t go over well, and apparently more need to be added so I don’t get shut out, since “it is so competitive that even if you are perfect, it doesn’t matter, since there is a whole pool of perfection.” Like the “chance me” people on this site, for example-all so amazing. I was told to add at least two more specific schools that are also very, very competitive, and I thought WHY, if it is so competitive and there is the issue of possibly being shut down completely from a list of schools that I didn’t initially create, am I being told to put add even more competitive schools? I was told TEN is the average. That sounds really high to me.

Ten is good, certainty a bit higher than some but if the schools that you’re looking at all all close together interviewing shouldn’t be much of a problem. My list if five reach and two safeties.

Ten is probably the maximum you want to apply to. The average at least around here is probably around 5-8. Naturally, I agree with this, so 5 isn’t bad, but adding one or two more wouldn’t hurt at all, especially if you’re going just to visit and determine the final “feel” of the school.

Thanks for the advice! I think then maybe I will try to visit a few more, but still just apply to the ones that feel like the best fit. It is hard to fit all these in with weekend test prep and games. I need maybe three more weekends added to the year. Or a time turner.

I don’t suppose many schools allow boarders to keep cars. I know of just one.

@chukkerhead What boarding school allows you have a car?
