Boarding School Applicants for Entry Year: 2012

Thanks deerbi. I have a question, do you have to do apps before interview or vice versa or it doesn’t matter the order? Is it different for certain schools?

It has always been my experience that your application to a certain school will not be considered complete until you have had an interview at the school or with a representative of the school. You could decide to write your essays before the interview process, after the interview process, or during the interview process. If I remember correctly (it seems so long ago…) I think I did one interview before starting my applications and three while completing my applications. Some schools may also want to so a follow up interview with you just to refresh their memories so that they can get ready for the selection process in March. Hope this helped!

Thanks deerbi! :)

Also, has anyone noticed that when you tell people about BS to people at your public school (if you go to one), they either 1) Think your bonkers 2) Think you did something bad. I’m friends with this one kid (he does drugs, but he’s nice and funny), and when I told him, he gave me a high five because he thought I did something wrong. Lol. Didn’t want to ruin HIS joy…

People always wanted to assume that I hate my parents which really made me upset…

@americannigerian,
MX has a really great drama program. Also, you can participate in a theatrical production in the same term you play a sport, something you can’t do at Deerfield. Idk much about Deerfield’s drama program.

People think my parent hate ME lol.

I just found out that March 10th is on a Saturday

@rizzledrizzle, When my friends found out I was applying, they thought I was crazy. They did until I got into Exeter. Then, I showed them the website and the programs offered at my future school and they understood. Now they want to go to boarding school. I have a friend who now wants to go to Choate. Just let them think what they want. Your true friends will accept your decision to go or not to go. The people who think you are weird are the ones who haven’t heard of GLADCHEMS and other excellent boarding schools. Whenever the subject of high school comes up, just tell people where you are going/what you hope to do if they ask.

Haha thanks. My friends understand and one of my life-long friends, (she’s a girl - but we’ve known each other since diapers), saw my list when she was at my house one day, and I left for the bathroom for a few minutes, and when I got back she was over the schools and she’s crazier than me about boarding school even though she can’t go. My friends understand now though, even though they get all emotional during class. One of my good friends who’s a football player is actually sad that I’m leaving and had a very serious talk to me about me leaving. This is coming from the guy who thinks you can have a flying skateboard powered by pee.

rizzledrizzle, where are you applying?

I have quite an extensive list, but last year, I was going to apply for eighth grade at Groton - but I was totally unprepared. Bombed the SSAT, was applying late - I had absolutely no chance. Decided to apply for ninth grade, so I’m widening my horizons. I’m for sure applying to Blair, Stevenson, Kent, but who knows - maybe hose views may change when I visit. I’m getting view books in the mail sometime soon, and my friend (the girl one I mentioned before), is going to help me sort them out and make a top ten, and make a couple of other cuts too.

I’m so excited though! I’m hardly containing my excitement, and I’m not making anything better by looking on PBTeen, pretending I’m shopping for my “dorm” lol. I’m going to be absolutely devastated though, if I don’t get in ):

I just left a message on the phone to schedule my interview at Groton. :)

I decided to interview at Groton cuz I like small school, and I heard their drama program was really good.

I was considering calling to schedule my interviews, but I was afraid it was too early. Is it? Because I’m the type of person who likes doing things early in order to avoid the stress of putting things off until the last minute - I’m basically a year-round planner. It’s my favorite thing to do lol! Anyways, would BS’ think I’m crazy if I schedule all my interviews now?

Wow, I never knew you could schedule interviews during the summer! My mom wants me to prepare a ‘proposal’ about the schools I want to apply to (this whole idea is about something about practicing essay writting, and interviews lol) She said she’s going to pick her top 5 favorites, and we’ll move on from there!

I don’t think so. If anything, it would show them how “enthusiastic” you are about attending their school (assuming you are). :)

AHH! Maybe I can finally do something this summer! :)

Well for Groton and Exeter you can do it during the summer. But
I’m only visiting Groton. :/

@Rizzledrizzle: I’m still deciding if I’m going to apply because I’m in MA so it’s all the way on the other side of the country. I have family about and hour and a half away from it so my parents are ok with it. But if it was over here I would definately apply and it would be my first choice! Groton is extremely hard to get in to because it is so small. I interviewed there last year but I was too scared to apply because I knew it wouldn’t work out. Also the whole circle thing kinda weirded me out.

@americannigerian: maybe you could visit one school formally and just drive by the other and walk around campus yourself. I would visit MX just because I feel I haven’t gotten a sense of the actual campus from the website. Also because somebody told me once that the campus is very enclosed from the road, however I’ve never been, so that could be wrong…
