I just want everyone to use correct punctuation and spelling and whatnot, because we don’t want to form bad habits :)

On a side note, the Peddie Facebook status is something along the lines of “Finish your essays! The deadline for the applications is January 15th!” Get them done!

Oh my goodness! I am soooo sorry! My sister hacked my acount and created a fake person! I am from Arkansas but I am a college student, and I am not at all interested in boarding schools!

@Helloel: All of my essays are done, with the exception of my Peddie essay. I’m currently in the process of just editing the others. I was having a problem with the short answers, so I thought that I was going to have an even bigger problem with the essay. Surprisingly, it didn’t take me very long at all. Most of my essays took around 1.5-2 hours. Fortunately, I’m not going to have to do a whole lot of editing. I’m a perfectionist. So, I pretty much edit as I go. I have this tendency to make sure every sentence is “perfect”.

@Magusalex: I’m not sure. I think there are probably one or two members on this board who are applying from Michigan, or at least live in the states surrounding it (i.e. Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, etc.)

Does applying to only one school increase your chances of admission to that school? I think it might help a little, because they will know if they give you admission, you are sure to come.

Well you have to remember that if the school you’re applying to doesn’t ask what other schools you’re applying to then they would never know. Also, I think schools like to see that you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket. My Andover interviewer complemented me on applying to more than one type of school. So it might work against you. Then again, if you only have time for 1 app, just focus on perfecting that one. Long story short I think it isnt a deciding factor in your app, but it could have a smaaall amount of benefit.

I’m kind of freaking out now. Just figured out that I should have another form for Andover (not required but they said it would benefit me) but there site has been down for two days! Has anyone else been able to access it?

I’ve been able to access it. Make sure that your browser is the latest one–I couldn’t type anything on the Choate one with my old browser. Also, what beneficial form are you talking about?

It was Deerfield, my bad. Even thought their form is identical to the gateway form and even says “common recommendation” they have specific directions on their website that it needs to be completed only by a current teacher. The gateway instructions just say anyone who knows you well. So I think they were assuming that I had the gateway for filled out by someone other than a current teacher. They said that my application would be complete without an additional form from a 3rd academic teacher like they request, because they are connected with gateway and gateway doesn’t require that it is filled out by a teacher. So it’s confusing. They said that it would be beneficial to me to have an extra recommendation filled out by a 3rd current teacher.

@helloel: I don’t think the admissions offices would mind, but if you’re applying to Andover, the Dean of Admission released a journal talking about how applicants sometimes send too much info like extra personal recs or documents so I don’t think it would be a good idea to send one there.

@Helloel: I can’t imagine it being an issue. Unless they specified that they didn’t want any additional recommendations, I would go ahead and send both recommendations.

youngatilla and starkali: yeah I saw that about Andover, and that was the school I was referring to. So, I don’t think I will send two in, I just asked my teacher to do Deerfields, (I was going to ask him to do Andovers too) because they require a current academic teacher which I didn’t realize and my advisor is filling out the other ones.
