I just got my first package from westminster!

No packages yet for me :/

That sucks ): Only one out of a billion… And Westminster isn’t even one of my top choices. But every gold pages (:

From what I’ve heard, it’s not “easier” to get in as a freshman, just different. For sophomore class, they’re looking to “fill” slots they didn’t fill in the freshman class (i.e they need more kids for their orchestra, or they need for XC runners). For freshman class, they can take “quirky” kids, who may not have done as many traditional things.

What do you mean by traditional things?

Anyone interested in Mercersburg Academy in PA?

I researched Mercesburg, dont they have merit scholarships?

I heard that Mercesburg has merit scholarships, I’m not quite sure though. It’s not on my application list. It seems like a good school, but not one that I got exited about, you know? When I was researching about schools, some of them (St. George’s, Middlesex, Lawrenceville and Groton in particular) just made me absolutely itch with yearning to be there!

I’m not sure about St. George’s because I haven’t researched it as much. I looked into Groton and MX, but it was the opposite for me ballerina (:

Common sports, (soccer, lax, baseball, etc) common instruments, (violin, piano, etc.) common clubs (JNHS, Key Club, etc.). Things that are relatively common.

Portsmouth Abbey also has merit scholarships.

Is it good or bad if a school offers merit scholarships?

It’s good for people who would not qualify for a significant amount of need based financial aid but still need or want money

rizzledrizzle - everybody finds their match! Ahhh I just can’t wait to apply. The schools I’m applying to are:
St. Georges
Middlesex
Lawrenceville
Groton
Deerfield
Taft

but the only problem is, I don’t have a safety! I’ve been looking around a lot, but I can’t seem to find a school that most of my academic, athletic and artistic needs that has a large enough acceptance rate. I don’t want to go to a school that I wouldn’t be happy at!

I composed a list of final choices last night, though I may change my mind if I’m going to change them when I get the brochures and stuff.

-Peddie
-Westminster
-Blair
-Mercersburg
-Kent
-NMH
-Hill

Hm… Mercersburg has dance but I’m not sure if it’s GOOD or not. They offer, like, 40 AP courses and their SAT range is good enough. They have over 70 EC’s and it’s affordable because over 50% of their kids are on FA (if you’re applying for FA). Can you specify what you mean by your academic and athletic needs as well as artistic ones???

@rizzledrizzle I’m looking at Kent and NMH too! My parents aren’t sure if they want me to reapply because I go to a really good day school. It has a 12% acceprance rate, 1/3 of the class goes to Ivies every year, and 100% go to highly selective and most selective colleges. I know that if I complete high school here I will be able to go to a very good college, however the other students are so competitive that they don’t feel the need to be nice or supportive, and I think I’ll be miserable, but my parents say I’ll forget the pain I went through when I get into a good college. :/

@ballerina22 use the tabs.org boarding school finder. You can put in certain classes, sports, types of dance, and other things too! I like it morethan the boarding school review school finder

@ballerina22 how about Wyoming Seminary (its in Pennsylvania), Williston Northampton, or Loomis Chaffee? They’re all good schools (Loomis may not be a safety) that all offer dance, ballet, and film classes. If you want all girls then you could look at Emma Willard or Ethel Walker…
btw, I found these using the tabs school finder. I was using it for myself and thought I’d use it for you too!
oh and sorry for posting 3 times in a row…

Thanks for the suggestions! I don’t really want to go to an all girls school. I want a school that is academically challenging, with dance offered. I don’t want it to be too small (the smallest I could go for is around 350 people - I do to a small school currently and since I’ve fallen into the wrong group of friends, it’s hard to find new ones because it’s so small!) Also, it has to be in the East Coast, which isn’t really a long stretch for boarding schools. It would be ideal for me if there was a good town nearby the school, because I’m the kind of person that always likes to be doing something, you know? Also I would love it if the school had field hockey, crew, and tennis (not necessarily in different seasons, but I would love to do all of those!) I’m going to do a search on tabs.org right now. Sorry, I know I’m picky lol!
