Silly question but if I go to boarding school in CT and my permanent residence is in UT, when I apply do the colleges see me as a CT or UT applicant? When the colleges have the maps of how many kids applied to school from different states, it’s my permanent address that gets counted, correct?
Your residence is UT.
Your home address gets counted for geographic diversity, for however much it matters, but in most cases, the application will be read by the AO who covers the boarding school, and your stats will be viewed in the context of the school. Your NMSF status, if applicable, will also be based upon your school (in the case of New England boarding schools, the cutoff for the state with the highest cutoff, typically MA, applies).
