Any suggestions? Going to Barnes and Noble and I want to look for books that take place in a prep school setting seeing as how I can relate. I know of Prep... any others?

There's the Private series, The It Girl, and Better Than Yesterday (the author was a writing teacher at GirlSummer and lived on my hall the first year!). That's all I can think of right now.
They are all fabulous books and you should definitely check them out!

there is one called Prep by curtis sittenberg (last name might be off) it's really good! just beware of some raunchy parts in the second half. and of course, harry potter (lol)

Private is a great series. It was the book that made me want to go to boarding school. It's amazing! The It Girl is entertaining, but not as good. Prep seems good, too, and I am going to read its soon.

Any other books people can recommend? This would be a good thing to do during the summer while we imagine what next next year will be like. I already know about Potions Class, Dark Arts etc of course.

most books about prep schools like the It Girl books etc are not really true and you should not base you view of boarding schools off them haha but they are fun to read

Two classic boarding school books are "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles (takes place at Exeter) and "A Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger (main character just expelled from boarding school).

The Mallory Towers books by Enid Blyton (might have to order from amazon.uk) are great fun to read. Don't base your ideas about boarding school on this idyllic series, though!

A Separate Peace is a great read and I would reccomend it as with a catcher in the rye!
Prep is based on Groton but after reading it there are some things that weren't true at all.
The other books are fun reads but mostly fictional

Thanks Guys! I just went out and bought Prep as well as Private. It was funny because I went to Target and they don't have a huge book selection there, but It seemed there were like 45435 books on boarding school. I think it was a sign. I wasn't planning on seeing all the books described above there. It was fate ;) planning on reading some tonight......

Ah! I love The Catcher in the Rye! How could I forget that?

I love it too, even though it kind of makes boarding schools seem...not so good.
I'm reading it for the second time right now!

The It Girl and the Private series are fun reads, but the majority of events that happen? Not like actual boarding school at all most of the time. Another unrealistic boarding school series...I can't totally remember the names and I have them at school so I can't check...the title was "Upper Class" or something like that...about I guess sort of a "new money" girl going to a prestigious boarding school, rooming with an "old money/legacy" girl, there were a couple of them.

I went to GirlSummer a while ago! (before I was a freshman in high school, I think?) Nice camp, but I didn't keep going because I wanted to ride more...it's actually what hooked me on going to boarding school, I would have applied to Emma Willard but I didn't want to give up horses. Suchhh a pretty school.

Oh really?
That's so cool!
GirlSummer was such a great experience, I fell in love with Emma through it and I think having gone for two summers definitely helped me get in.

A Separate Peace takes place during WW II, and A Catcher In The Rye during the 50's, so they might not be "relatable" for today's youngster. Two others for those interested in another era are The Headmaster by John McPhee (about Deerfield's legendary Boyden), and Death Be Not Proud by John (?) Dunne (a true story about a Deerfield boy and absolutely heartbreaking).

fif read Prep -- IMHO, garbage.

There's another one, Restless Virgins, set in modern Milton Academy, but its absolute garbage. Read it if you want, I couldn't finish it, it was awful, completely unrealistic.

For those of you who are interested, a new non-fiction book came out last week: Perfectly Prep: Gender Extremes at a New England Prep School. This is an anthropological study of a boarding school community focused on gender expectations and is very accessible, written at about the level of Preparing for Power (another study of boarding schools, outdated in many ways since it was written 20 years ago). The author has concealed the identity of the school, but I doubt it will remain hidden for long. Very interesting and of great relevance to all of you.

I dont think it's very accurate... bit read Looking for Alaska by an author with some name or another.
It's awesome.

Isn't it a true story though?

it is, but it's like exaderated to the 93444532532432 power.
