I'm wondering whether students at boarding schools ever have time alone? And how much free time is there? I'm sure this varies among schools, but I'd love to hear what the range is.

Time alone? Very little. I know my daughter enjoys using some of her free block time to be in her dorm room when her roommate isn't there because it is her only "truly alone" time all day.

Kids usually don't go to boarding schools to find time alone. But of course they need it. If it is critical, look at schools that offer single rooms to all new students, and perhaps stay away from those with more open rooming schemes.
