Boarding School Tips!!

I’d be really surprised if the school didn’t have security cameras. And equally surprised if they are using them for anything other than security, like monitoring student behavior.

The role of security is to keep the campus safe and protected, not to prevent students from breaking the rules or doing stupid things.

As an example, the role of the Royalty and Specialist Protection officers is to ensure no harm comes to their charges, not to prevent them from dressing as a Nazi or running around naked in a Las Vegas hotel room.

To elaborate on some of the answers above for @pr3psch00l

  1. Do schools have/have not security cameras around campus.

Our school does and has added more over the past few years.

  1. Are drugs common? I think at some schools they may be more common - I have heard that certain schools closer/within a large city have more drug use by students. Easily accessible and more day students. Our campus is literally down the road from several pot farms and within minutes of “Farmicies”. It is my impression that there is very little use of it on campus. There is, however, more vaping than I think the school knows about. Regarding harder and/or more $$ drugs, there was a movie, “The Preppy Connection” about the Choate entrepreneurs of the 1980’….I had heard about these guys when I was in college.

  2. Are kids typically having sex before 16? I have heard from other parents that Freshman at some schools are more active than at other schools. I believe it does vary. I think the St Paul’s scandal and the Owen Labrie case served to educate a lot of students (at the time) about issues of sexual assault, consent, and laws @ age differences. I’m not sure how much is being discussed now with entering younger students. Really have not heard about Seniors with 9th graders. Honestly, I think there were less hook ups on campus last year because of COVID restrictions - just less socialization of any sort. Plus there were palm tracers. Students’ one cards/passes only let them into their own dorms. It’s kind of hard to sneak into certain buildings after hours. But there are a couple of buildings on campus that are well known for “romantic” meetings. If you want more specifics, DM me

  • There is more drinking than drugs, IMHO. We often see airplane bottles of vodka on the perimeter of sports fields or at the edge of distant parking lots.

Drugs, drinking, sex all varies a bit by school. Hookups doesn’t necessarily mean sex BTW. For sure there are schools I am familiar with where almost all freshman, aka, before or at 16, are having sex.

Generally there isn’t a ton of drinking and drugs on campus - but schools vary by how much drinking goes on off campus.

Age gaps can be quite large there are 13/14 year olds and there are plenty of 18/19 year olds. At a school with PG, there are likely to be 20 year olds as well.
