For anyone who lives in these areas, can you tell me what the weather is like during the school year?
how cold does it get?
I live in Ireland which does get a lot of rain but it is rarely freezing,so how will i adjust?

I know it doesnt have any thing to do with admissions or academics but it is important

Buy a winter coat, you will be fine. Asking about this broad area is like asking “What’s the weather like in English/Spain and France?”. Lows in the winter can be well below freezing during the daytime for days on end in the colder areas. Snowfall can be nothing to several feet. But all you have to do is walk around so don’t worry too much. If you don’t have enough warm stuff you can buy things locally and/or online and/or borrow from others.

Winter, - lots of snow and below zero weather these past years.

Layers, a warm winter coat, hats, gloves, turtlenecks, a scarf for New England. When in doubt, lycra tights (like bicyclists wear) to where under your pants/jeans. Waterproof, warm boots. If you don’t have it, don’t pack it. Just buy it here on sale.

But it just occurred to me - it’s past April 10th. Narrow down the specific school and students can tell you about the weather to expect.

i actually wont be applying for the 2010/11 year but instead 2011/12
I suppose the question was broad,
so how about the weather in Boston,MA and Hartford,CT and Cleveland,OH?

In the Boston area, does it snow a lot (>6 in) a few times a year or a little (<6 in) many times? Is the plowing prompt after a snowfall? Do you have a lot of icy/slushy days? For commuters, is an AWD car recommended or you can get by with a FWD?

dhurley23 - Cleveland weather is VERY unpredictable (Ohio weather in general is, but especially in Cleveland because of Lake Erie). I remember a day during which it hailed and then was sunny and beautiful in the space of about 15 minutes.

The coldest it usually (key word!) gets is in the winter is about 10 degrees F during the day, colder at night (obviously…). There is A LOT of snow. Boots are essential. I know many kids from warmer places (the south, Jamaica) who bundle up like nobody’s business during the winter and are fine.

That being said, the snow lasts for a LONG time. From about October/November to about April, in most cases. It hailed/snowed around the beginning of April this year, and I recall a few snow days in my middle school years during April.

On the other hand, the spring is BEAUTIFUL (after you get through the initial “rain” period…)

Just out of curiosity, which schools around Cleveland are you thinking about? (I go to a boarding school around Cleveland and I’ve lived near Cleveland for almost my entire life, so if you need any advice about any schools around here, lemme know!)

I live in Connecticut, and the weather in September and October is usually moderately cool, but it can get very cold, so you’ll need a light jacket (heavy sweatshirt, light p-coat, etc.). November, December, January, February, and most of March is bitterly cold, so you’ll need a winter coat, hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, and boots (or whatever else you feel is necessary). Weather in April varies; it can be as cold as a mid-December day, or as hot as a mid-July day. May is usually very warm and sunny, but you’ll need a light sweatshirt.
