Bombed ACT Math on practice test.

Math has always been my best subject, and also has been my best section. I’ve gotten a 25 with every practice test I’ve taken in the last year or two, that is until today. I almost completely bombed making a 20. I do not know what could have possibly happened.

Here is what I did during the test. I started off answering some zingers right away and skipped some of the harder looking ones, not too bad seemingly. That changed around 2/3 of the way in. I ended up having to mark skip on just about every problem. Some of them looked totally doable, but I felt immense pressure because of the time limit and my brain was just stuck. I only got to come back to 2 skipped questions, and I bubbled in every other problem I skipped (which was about 20 something problems).

I am so confused, I had just been prepping immensely for ACT Math, and I blew it. I feel like I must have gotten dumber since the last time I took a practice test, which was half a year ago.

I want to take the ACT in September, but I feel like my skills are just weakening, not strengthening. What should I do?

I say keep practicing. This one practice test sounds like an anomaly; were testing conditions different from all your other practice tests? That might play a factor. If you’re studying this section as hard as you say you are, I don’t think you’re prepping the right way. I recommend getting the official ACT book and maybe a good test prep book focused on the math section. Work on strategy as well.
