Book a Day

Out of curiosity, anyone here every read a full chapter book with +200 pages in one single day? Is this productive or a waste of time, partially nourishing ourselfs, yet forgetting everything the following day?

Depends...

I do it if it's a book I really like/have been anticipating getting, it's a weekend, and all my homework is done (or it's a weekday and I have no homework). Otherwise, it ends up being counterproductive.

I have. All the Harry Potters since the second one...but I don't know if those count, because so many people do that. I'm so sad they're no more!! ) :

You gotta admit the last one was kick-butt though. Beautiful ending. ^_^

I usually take a day to read 300 pgs, and yeah, some books I do finish in 1 day (including HP).

I didn't finish HP7 the same day I got it, but I finished it in less than 24 hours. I don't think I stopped reading until I finished. ^_^

I've done it with HP 5, 6, and 7, the three Twilight books out so far, all four Traveling Pants books, and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

If I don't have much to do and I'm intrigued, I'll keep going until it's finished. No eating, no sleeping, just reading.

Yup...I've read at least 40 books that way...the summer after freshman year, I read 42 books in 6 weeks...you do the math. And all over 300 pages. Also, I've read The Book Thief (600+ pages, I think), etc, in a day. Others I've read in a day that come to mind: The 10th Circle, The Things They Carried, Fight Club (2x in 10 hours with some sleeping in between) and tons more. Don't hate on readers!

I read the Harry Potter books (1-6) in the six days before the release of 7. I read The Expected One which is like 460 pages in one day too. If I like the book I can do it no problem.

I think I've read books in 2 days, but not one. I've come really close to one, where I'll read an hour one day and then finish the book the second day. Too bad this only works for interesting books (John Grisham, HP, Lee Child) and not for the books one has to read for English class.

The spring break of my freshman year I managed to read 2 books in one day, and 6 books in a 4 day period. I had to make several trips to Barnes & Noble that week. Let's just say I haven't had that type of time recently :(

I remember "back in the day" I used to read the Series of Unfortunate Events books the day they came out within 24 hours.

I read Everything is Illuminated today (280 pages or so).
It was good, and not a waste of time (part of English honors homework...)

hey Anon, I can't believe you read 42 books in 6 weeks(+300 pages) Thats insanely awesome. May I ask, if you scored a perfect score on the Critical reading portion of the SAT or PSAT?

hah, thanks...well, I'm taking it this weds for real (don't jinx me!) but I got a 79 and a 78 on my cr and writing as a sophomore, so yeah, pretty much!

My record is 2,000+ pages in a day. Although, it's not exactly higher level reading like Pope or anything like that.

I will say that I tend to forget titles, authors, character names, and other random information over time but it's worth it. Reading a book in one day actually helps me because I tend to forget about it if I put it down. xD

I think it's great for fun, as long as you don't push yourself.

If it's something worth reading, I won't stop until I finish. It's a terrible habit.

Ex: The sun rose through my window as I read HP7. I didn't notice.

xD Same here...my parents get so annoyed. I used to (er...still do...) crawl under my blanket with my cell phone/alarm clock/flashlight/any other source of light to finish reading my book no matter what.

I read through meals, in moving vehicles (ugh, but I get super carsick when I do this), and while walking. xD

Ahah, I've got to say I've been called a dork more times than I can count but my friends and family are pretty used to it. xD

bookworms anonymous meeting is at 7 PM tomorrow, remember to bring your bookmarks for the bonfire everybody!

haha, I think the best is when you read BETWEEN classes...it's a solid five minutes of reading time! I think the worst is that my friend reads while DRIVING!

i love all the book nuts on this thread. i regularly make myself carsick trying to read in the car, i ALWAYS read while i eat...etc. i sometimes read an entire book in one day (NEVER for school, just for fun) so i've taken to buying books based on how long they'll keep me occupied.

there was a time where my family would go to the bookstore and i would read an entire Series of Unfortunate Events book while sitting in the kids section. it was great.
