Many if not most girls use large purses as bags. They tend to get roughed up pretty badly. It really depends on the sort of classes you take. Sciences need bigger books, and therefore, heartier bags. I started with a canvas messenger and a cotton tote, then started using big leather totes or just my laptop case. Leather is sturdy, classic, and will last for ages, plus it looks decent if you use it as a bag outside of school.

I have a rotation thing going on with my bookbags, depending on my schedule I plan around it.

I have 2 bookbags, a messenger bag and like Tkk said, a few large purses.

I usually use a laptop bag that looks like a purse and then a canvs tote but I also rotate depending on the class. Since I’m coming from FIT it might seem like a lot but in addition to my books and computer I had plenty of supplies to bring. This was mainly when commuting so my day was also jam packed so I would only have o make a trip to the school once a week. When I lived on our tiny campus I just grabbed my laptop and books I needed or that class threw them in whatever Purse I was using that day and carried whatever didn’t fit.

I would reccomend having some seperaye bags of different colors and sizs for variety but if that’s bot what your looking for then something big enough to fit a laptop if younplan on using it for class and a few spiral notebooks would be good. When i’m in stores like target I take 3 spiral books 5 subject and put them in the different bags I’m carrying so you can get a feel of how much space is in the bag and how the straps will feel when it’s heavy

I too use a messenger bag but sometime if I have more than 2 textbooks to carry then i use my Northface. Both type of bags are the norm at SU.

House of London-is your Northface a backpack?

I have both a large purse and a sling backpack (which I got free as a promotional product…made by Gemline)…it’s small, has a cushioned laptop case, and is a one-strap deal that goes across the chest, so its weight is balanced but it’s simple to put on. Basically, you need something that can carry a laptop, a large notebook, and a textbook…that weight and size is about the max you’ll see, but you want it to be comfortable and balanced…the problem with purses is that they’re only on one side of your body, so if your daughter is the type to want to remain on campus all day, instead of returning to her dorm after each class, I’d definitely go with a backpack.

Also, this is Syracuse, so WATERPROOF would definitely be beneficial. =D

musical mom, yes my Northface is a backpack. I’m not a big fan of it but 3+ books acnnot fit into my messenger.
