Book lists are posted! (8/8/2007)

i also dont have a book showing for writ 140, but it was asked earlier and i guess there isnt a book for this course. im also missing a book for my fresh. engineering academy (but im assuming there isnt a book for that either).

$564.17 for 12 new books, which is including the 2 optional books. Chinese Civilizations has a lot of books. I expected it to cost more.

i'm totally scared to buy the wrong books from amazon... like there are so many editions of each of my books on amazon & i'm 100% not sure which one is right. is there really no way we can find out the ISBNs?

Just try and match the publishers. You should be fine. If you're really scared, just look at the book at the bookstore. If you don't need it right away, then buy it online after you've spied the cover and ISBN. If you do need it for your class right away, buy it online and at the bookstore. When the online order comes in, return the bookstore copy.

What protokurios suggests is usually how I do it. You will find, however, that there are a few exceptions. For example, I took SPAN-220 last semester, and you needed to buy that course's textbook bundle directly from the USC Bookstore because the textbook I needed to buy was bundled with a Blackboard component customized specifically for USC. Just remember that you can return new or used books/bundles to the USC Bookstore, but if the new item was plastic-wrapped and you want to return it later, don't rip off the plastic wrap. Oh, and course readers aren't returnable (at least, I don't think they are).

Question: If the publishing name says CUST PUB (I'm looking at Geog 100 Course Reader), does that mean it can only be bought through USC? I assume CUST stands for Custom.
Ahhh, I was really hoping to save money online!

writemap: That's exactly what it is. The need to buy the course reader really depends on the course. Some courses utilize it while other courses utilize it very little or not at all.

powerabe13 (or anyone), so is this unusual or to be expected since this is "preliminary"?!? i mean, just one book listed for five registered courses?

I would say that it IS unusual, but not at this point. It is perhaps possible that the USC Bookstore is posting the book lists per course on a rolling basis. Why this is... that's anybody's guess. Perhaps the bookstore is posting up a course's book list as they stock the shelves or receive the actual shipment of textbooks. I'm not sure. For now, I'd just wait it out. I'm pretty sure there is a textbook for microeconomics, as I think I passed by it last semester while in the bookstore.

diehldun, i'm going to be really generous and allow you to buy some of my books. lol

The booklist is in flux for a week or so. Professors forget to order the book for their class. Professors do order, but someone lost it and no one knows until class starts and the professor realizes no one has the book. Bookstore assumes textbook will be the same as last semester without asking but then professor changes. There are a million reasons and I've seen a lot of them happen :)

I usually buy books 3 days into the semester on amazon or such, I only got in trouble twice where HW was due before the textbook arrived, in which case I just borrowed a friends/TA's book for a few minutes and copied the problems.

7 books for HIST103 alone. Fabulous.

daym misoobishi, that sucks lol

Misoobishi: Ouch! I know the feeling. That brings back painful memories of when I had to go double digits for my arts and letters class.

Does anyone have a used version of the Biology textbook for 120 (by Campbell, 7th ed.) that they are willing to loan/sell cheap?

Does the 7th Edition of Campbell have a CD or anything attached

hey lonefreckle get the international version of campbell 7th for $50 brand new online, it comes with the cd too. It is softcover reason for the cheap price but the pages are exactly the same as the hardcover i've checked.

As a student studying computer science and video games, I'm proud to say that one of my required books is $20 new. Right on! err...uh, Fight on! I mean.

Are all the books up at this time, or are there more to follow? Because I've only got three books on my list...

Everyone don't even bother looking at your lists yet, this especially applies to freshmen who might think of buying now. In my one year at school, an incorrect book was posted, other books were completely unnecessary for my social issues class (I got an A in that and wasn't lazy, and another teacher recommended not buying the book and simply getting his ten dollar study guide.
Bottom line: DO NOT BUY ANY BOOK until you are given absolute evidence that the book will be necessary for the class, you will save yourself plenty of time and money.

uscfootball07, that is true.

but those in science classes at least get your text books and accompanying solutions manual (if there is one)
