Bookbags

Excuse my ignorance, but do you really need a bookbag in college? I'm sure there are a lot of heavy books, but since classes are spaced out, would you just need a messenger bag to carry your reports and then carry the book in your arms? In high school virtually no one had a bookbag and I know nothing about college kids....so....yeah.

So should I get a bookbag? A huge heavy duty one that can fit a small child? Or just stick with regular/small? Thanks.

You might want a laptop bag at the least.
We carried around our backpacks with us in high school, so I’d imagine the same would apply for college.

Get a backpack designed to carry your laptop. Those are usually big enough and offer some protection.

I’m getting one of those newer laptop bags with a padded, secure spot for the laptop and then pockets for notebooks/textbooks/calculator/whiteout/pencils/pens/etc.

I don’t really see the need for a full-sized backpack. Unlike in my high school, you don’t typically have 7 classes in a row. You might have 2, 3, or 4, total in a day. You might have a big gap between some classes too, in which you have plenty of time to go back to your dorm and switch out stuff.

I, personally, wouldn’t go for a full-sized ginormous backpack.

I think it depends on the school. At my school, a ton of people (myself included) do carry a backpack. Others at my school barely carry anything.

You may not need the textbook for class, but it’s good if you’ve got an hour break here and there.

Going back to the dorms to switch things out is an incredible waste of time.

Also, if I have my laptop I prefer to use a backpack to carry it over a messenger bag. Messenger bags put a real strain on one side of your body that you really shouldn’t have if you’re walking half a mile to class.

am i the only one who uses a rolly on here? <.<

^ I personally would not like a rolling bag, especially if I am carrying along a $3000 laptop + other expensive electronics. It is asked for getting kicked.

And it just looks stupid.

DD uses a big one because some days she is feeling motivated and carries extra books in case she is inspired go to the library to study.

a regular backpack will work, if you want to get fancy, get one with a laptop sleeve.otherwise just carry your laptop in a laptop sleeve. if you are living on campus you can leave your books in your room, you wont need them for lectures.

im just going to put this out there
if you use a rolly backpack, you will be automatically judged as a loser
hardly anyone uses one in high school… why would you use one in college?
they are lame

I have a laptop backpack and I am glad. Classes are not always spaced out, and it gets a little tiring running back and forth to your dorm all the time. If I only have one class to go to and I am using one of my larger purses that day I’ll just throw the book in my purse, but usually it doesn’t happen that way.

I would rather use a wheeled bag than screw up my back lugging a computer and books across a large campus. shrug But I haven’t gone to a school with fewer than 5000 students in almost 8 years, so the concept of “automatically being judged a loser” has become pretty foreign to me. If you have nothing better to do than kick people’s belongings and make fun of them, clearly you were let out of high school too soon.

oh? i have never once had my bag kicked, been called a looser, and i have actually been asked where i’ve gotten it.

College isn’t highschool kiddies.

Oh, the ironing.

Anyway, OP use what you feel comfortable with. You’re the one that has to haul it around for a good chunk of time.

oh? Laziness? How about i send you the bill when i truelly mess up my knees?

Are you suffering from an injury? Then using a rolly bag might be acceptable.

Other than that, no.

Bookbag wars. Awesome stuff.
I’m just waiting for someone to proclaim their JanSport as God of all backpacks.

perfect post platts

LOL. This is good stuff.

its not just laziness its also that rolly backpacks were aimed at elementary school students who arent strong enough yet to be carrying a heavy backpack. It would be similar to wearing velcro shoes
