Books that have direct hits vocab? (core and toughest 2010)

I just learned that i enjoy reading books that contain the words i learned while studying direct hits(not completely finished memorizing). reading a book and coming across a few words i learned in DH helped me understand the word better. Any book suggestions? I have to read a book anyways for accelerated reader thing...

I had to read the Scarlet Letter for my English class and it has lots of SAT vocabulary in it. Many of the words are in the DH books. Here is a link to the vocabulary you will find in the book [Teaching Vocabulary with Literature](http://teacher2b.com/strategies/vocab1.htm).

Another great book is To Kill a Mockingbird and it also has a link that lists the vocabulary found in the book [All the Vocabulary](<a href=“Los Angeles Unified School District / Homepage”>Los Angeles Unified School District / Homepage). You should recognize a number of the words from Direct Hits.

Catch 22 has some great vocabulary for the SAT, alot of which is also found in Direct Hits.

I agree with The Scarlet Letter, but not with To Kill a Mockingbird-vocab in TKM are rudimentary, at best.

Try reading works by Dickens and Hemingway.

Look at the vocabulary link for To Kill a Mockingbird, there are definitely some hard words like apoplectic, obstreperous, and assuage that have caused some of your fellow SAT testers some problems. I do agree that Dickens and Hemingway are great choices.

TKM has very few “difficult” SAT words, so in my opinion it’s not worth reading. However, it may be a good source for your essay (lots of themes in TKM).

Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky is a great one, I just remembered. Solid vocab.

Jane Eyre has a HUGE amount of SAT vocab in it. I would highly recommend it.
