Books??

Random question.......How much do books cost??

a lot.

buy them used

where do you buy them used?

A bunch of places. Amazon.ca, Chapters, and there are of course a bunch of used bookstore places in the McGill ghetto.

furthermore, im selling mine. i have the required texts for Math 133, Math 150/151/222/262. and Phys 131/142. And i'm looking to sell them. If you're looking tobuythem, let me know.
ill be in montreal on sept 1st

beatlespwr I'm up for that. I'll PM you my email address. Also do youi know if engineering students ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE MATH 150, I'm thinking of taking math 139/140 cause its easier.

WashingtonIrving - if you have no previous knowledge of calculus, you should take 140, 141, 262.
if you have taken a calculus class before, you should take 150,152

either way you'll need Math 133.
And you should take Phys 131/142

yeah, I took AP calc in highschool, but didn't do the exam...its just I've heard horror stories about 150 being ridiculously hard....

i got an 100 in the course, so i may not be the best person to ask.
but if you've taken ap calc, take 150

I hear that textbooks in the UK are more reasonably priced and cost way less if you order from there, even after factoring in delivery and exchange rates. The only issue might be the waiting time before you get them...

That being said, calculus books are just expensive doorstops. And calculus 150 is not ridiculously hard, it's just that a lot of students taking it think they know most of the material already (and therefore pay little attention in class or during tutorials). What they don't realize is that they don't know it nearly well enough. Only after getting abysmal grades in a midterm, or once the class reaches material they know they haven't seen yet do they realize that this course is not easy and is going at a fast pace.

Blobof and beatlespwr
According to the website, if you get a 4 or higher on APCalcAB, it replaces
Calc 1 (140). Don't you then have to take Calc 2 141 as your next course - not
Calc A (150)? What is the difference between Calc 1/2 and Calc A/B??

Personally, I recommend taking the 140-141, 222 (or whatever is its equivalent in the Engineering faculty) route (think of the poor 150 TAs), and if you're credited for 140, then go right ahead to 141.

MATH 150-151 (calculus A and calculus B) are 4 credit intensive courses that together cover the material of 140-141 (cal 1 and 2) and 222 (cal 3: multivariable calculus) in 2 semesters. At least in 150, many (if not most) of the students don't know what they're in for.

Thanks, Blobof!

When do you get your booklists?
