Books

when do most people start ordering books? I think I'm gonna wait until after add/drop. Is that too late?

You don't have to "order" books if you don't want. They are all available in the student stores on campus. You can just walk in and buy. If you're asking how long to wait to buy a book as far as seeing whether or not you are going to stay with the class, the sooner the better. I believe you get a full refund of the book if you return it within the first couple days. Not really sure on the time period. I'm pretty sure after 2 weeks they wont give you full price back. With that being said, if you wait to wait to buy books until after you go to the first day of class and get the syllabus and check it out, you'll be fine. I wont get my books until probably the day classes start. Maybe the day before if I'm feeling motivated. But I know I'm not going to drop any of my classes.

Oh yea freshman year don't they have that pre-order thing, where they'll box up all your books for you and you just come pick up the box? That's pretty nice cause it gets kind of crazy trying to get your books, especially the first couple days. I don't know the deadlines on that though.

Are the lists up at the bookstore trustworthy right now? Books are just so overpriced at the university bookstore.

I pre-ordered my books again this year... I hate scavenging for books. It's a bit more expensive, but it also buys me peace of mind! ; )

i got all my books at BIGWORDS.com | Buy Textbooks | Sell Textbooks | Used College Textbooks | New College Textbooks | Textbook Price Comparison | Cheap Textbooks | Cheapest Textbooks | Compare Textbook Prices | Textbook Buyback | Textbook Price Bot | New and Used Music | and must have saved at least 200-300 dollars. i didnt add it all up lol. ill be a new transfer sophomore. i just ordered from the campus bookstore for the stuff that was unique to the school, like i couldn't find my korean book online. try it! the site compares all the other sites and finds the best price, even with shipping included.

if there's like one main textbook for a class, i'll buy it in advance online from amazon or half.com..this will save you a TON of money! i did end up dropping a course i'd bought a textbook for but i used it the next semester.
if the class has a lot of smaller, less expensive texts like novels or non-fiction readings, i'll usually buy those from student stores as i go along because it's not worth paying for shipping.

My son orders from Tarheel Book Store From what I understand they have the list of books for each class and have lower prices than the one on campus. He said buy back prices are pretty good too. He is going to order this weekend as it is "tax free" weekend in NC. Instead of having them shipped, he will pick them up when he hits town (saves on shipping).

Like leah said, my son often orders the supplemental books from amazon

Are E-Books like a CD or something you download?

e-books are digital versions of the book, usually in .pdf format. They're usually distributed by downloading or by CD.

So essentially, yes.
