Books

Ok so it took me a long time (actually the whole summer) to get my schedule to work for me. It was only until this weekend that I got some classes that I wanted, and it was only this weekend that I ordered my books from websites like half.com. I'll be buying some books from student stores as well because the prices come out to be the same (almost) and I would have to wait less (hopefully?). So I am wondering if waiting to order books like two-three days before classes start is smart. I mean I went in to order from websites thinking that ppl do add/drop during the first week...and so the first week won't be where profs are assigning loads of work (right?). My website books are said to come in between 6-14 days. If I had expedited them and done 1 day shipping it would have costed me $20 per every single book since I got them from different sellers. Any advice? or just a calming statement to rest my worry?

Signing up for a student Amazon account might be the way to go for you. They usually ship door to door in 2 days for most textbooks with no shipping charges.

I know you already ordered for this semester but for any subsequent ones you may want to consider this option.

wow, I didn’t know that. I have some other books that i still have to purchase. i’ll do it through this site.

My S ordered his through Amazon too and they came in 2 days. There were a couple he couldn’t get through Amazon, so he found them used in the UVA bookstore.

S is 2nd year. He posted on facebook if someone would sell him a book he needs and received several replies, including one that says he can borrow it. Something to consider next semester.

Something else to consider: Chegg.com. I’ve been renting my books for a couple years now and it’s saved me a ton of money. I only had to buy books for 3/5 classes this semester, but I ended up spending less than $200 on 12 books. You just keep the box and mail it back (free shipping) at the end of the semester. I also sold back some books I’d bought previously to Chegg and got a little more than $90 in credit.
