What? Do you like polishing them? (I will admit, they are easier to clean.)

I would get all leather with a hard toe. Slap a few layers of leather luster or the special paint on for a kick ass shine. I don't polish my shoes.

shining doesn't take long after you get many coats on it. its not as bad as you may think. just make suer you are tought right, or ask quesitons.

well, considering I haven't put actual polish on them since BCT, I'd rather not spend the necessary time. ;)

You have to be careful with the leather luster though, else it can ruin the boot.

A couple people in my squad tried to use edge dressing on their low quarters...that didn't work for very long! lol

I noticed that boot purchases at orientation will be available on the SECOND day for each orientation, Tuesday. The academy doesn't accept cash, personal checks or credit cards -- Only cashier's checks or money orders! The exact amount is $98.29 and the check should be made out to DFAS. As I recall, the Armed Forces bank had a table where you could give them cash and they will give you a bank check. But, if you want to avoid the line, you now have the exact amount and you can get the bank check ahead of time. Note: if you go to the www.usafa.af.mil website and go to admissions directorate, click on selections and you'll find this and the orientation schedule. Apologies if all you 20011's already saw this!

D got an e-mail Monday (March 5, 2007) that said this info had changed. Below is a cut/paste of the info she got in the email.

NOTE: If you decide to buy the boots after arrival at the Academy and do not have a cashier’s check or money order, the student may purchase a money order from the Armed Forces Bank on Tuesday at the boot purchase area. The money order may be purchased with a personal check, credit card or cash.

I haven't been getting any emails from the Academy. Nothing via email literally for months. Am I missing something?

It came to my D from the admissions office - the subject of the email was Appointee Orientation - New Boot Purchase Information (all caps). When she signed up for the orientation she got a confirmation email (subject of that email was: 2007 Appointee Orientation Program (again all caps). Then about a week or two ago she got another with some info about orientation and the boot info that was posted by AFADAD (same price / payee). Then Monday she got the one that indicated the different price and payee.

Are you signed up for an orientation? These probably only go to those registered for an orientation.

Wow! Sorry If I mislead anyone but I had pulled this right from the website. The section that is supposed to be updated for new appointees!! Thanks a lot Momofhopeful for clearing it up. Redhead, don't panic (welcome to military bureaucracy ;) ), did you put your email address on your application and on your orientation registration?

Where is there a section on USAFA's website for new appointees? I thought I'd seen it all, but I guess not :)

Redhead, We haven't gotten any email from USAFA in a long time, either. I am not sure why because I am positive that they have the correct email for us.

I double-checked and they have the right email address for me, too. Alright, well at least I'm not the only one. :) Thanks, guys.

Redhead89,

I was wrong. They did have the wrong email address. They used to have it right, but somehow one of the letters got dropped. I found out when someone on here forwarded me a copy of one of the recent emails, and I checked to see it ours was in there, and sure enough it was there, but misspelled. I emailed the contact at USAFA and she corrected it. So double check everything. If you want a copy of the three recent emails, ask my son and he'll forward them to you.
