Before I start, I warn you that my chances (according to my own thoughts) are abysmal. Other people told me not even to bother but I thought I'd give it a shot. I even called up the Admissions office but they flat out told me things didn't look too good. So, here goes: soo I did pretty bad on my SAT... 1560/1600 and 750/760 on Chem/MATII SATII. So I'm not a good standardized test taker sue me. :( Anyway, APs for junior year were 55544 CalcAB/ChemII/Environ/USHst/EngLang... again I was disappointed. I'm 8th in class at a "failing" public high school in Charlotte, NC. ECs are really nonexistent to tell you the truth... Key Club (12), Tech Connect (11), went to Purdue over the summer, Band (9,10). Yeah, thats really it. :( Anyway, weighted GPA is 4.6 though I may get a 6.0 next quarter. Thanks!

you are kidding right mate? are u an URM?

but judging from your stats you "seem" well qualified.

cheers!

Yeah....I'd say you have no chance at all. :(

@mark: Nope, I'm not an URM but I guess I'd be okay if I was.

@Tarheel: Yeah, I figured as much. :(

I was kidding....what was your SAT score....wasn't real clear on that. The only weak area I see is EC's but GPA and SAT II's look great.

Looking at those abhorred extra curricular activities, Chapel Hill is quite a reach. The top tier schools in NC look at all aspects and your ECs don't look up to par.

"PDutchy" sounds of an urban lexicon. You wouldn't by chance listen to weezy f. baby? Some critics say his work is lacking but i find it quite refreshing and judging from his adaptation of the english language, "lil wayne" does contend as "the best rapper alive".

good day sir

@Tarheel: Ahah, if I didn't catch the humorous sarcasm in that I don't deserve to live, let alone go to UNC. SAT was 2250 with a 690/8 in writing. Damn those essay graders. ;)

@marlboro: O RLY?

YA RLY

"there is a way to be good again"

What? I don't think that you don't have any chance at all. It's always so hard to chance people though and we really don't have the overall picture.

@Marlboro: For you, a thousand times over.

@Astra: No, that's really the whole picture. Aha, the only other EC I left out is that I tutor a mentally disabled neighbor twice a week after school (10,11,12).

Oh, and I think I also forget to mention that UNC sent me this sympathy letter or something. I'm not sure exactly what it is but it seems to seal my doom.

I would say pretty good chances. Especially if you had a good essay.

when you say: "1560/1600" do you mean:

1560 out of 1600

or 1560 (without writing) and 1600 (with writing)?

im sure its 1560 out of 1600 it wouldnt make sense for it to be 1560 (without writing) and 1600 (with writing) that would mean he/she got a 40 on the writing section

I'm thinking/hoping this is a joke.

mm yeah, i definitely hope so.

Joke? Wow, if only I could joke about matters so near and dear to all of our hearts right now... :) I would will a wink right there, ahah Anyway, this letter they sent me, the "sympathy letter." I didn't feel like reading it after the part where it said "thank you for your distinguished application", owing to the fact that thats just how my Caltech rejection letter started.

That's rough. I think rejection letters should go like this.

Dear ____,

I'm really sorry, we have to reject you. But you know what, you're a great person! Go ahead and tell your friends that University X thinks you're awesome, we're just filled up. We can't breathe we have so many applicants! You probably wouldn't even like it here anyway. It smells of cheap booze and our basketball team is terrible.

Apply here for grad school,
Super Tech University

Cloying: girl......you are a hoot. :)
