Boren Scholarship

Hello,

I am applying for the Boren Scholarship this year and was wondering if anyone else on the boards is applying as well. If so, where are you proposing to study? Do you have experience learning your chosen language? I will be applying for Korea to study at a university in Seoul. My knowledge of Korean is limited, but I won't be starting with zero understanding.

So, is anyone out there also applying?

I’m also in the process of applying for the Boren Scholarship; I just finished my campus interview and am trying to finish up my statements of purpose quickly before the final deadline. I’m actually very similar to you as I’m also a Korean learner trying to study abroad next year at either Yonsei/Korea in Seoul. I do have some experience with Korean (I’m in the third year and studied abroad in Korea last summer), but I’m still far from getting past conversational level, so taking regular courses in Korean is still out of the question.

I have everything finished except my campus interview, which will be this coming week. The online portion of the application is finished, though I have not submitted it yet -
All other supplemental materials have been submitted to my campus rep!

I am proposing to study Arabic in Amman, Jordan for the 2012/2013 school year.
I have limited experience with Arabic, though I have experience studying many other foreign languages (Spanish, Hebrew, French, ASL, etc.)

I bet Korea was a very popular destination this year. Fingers crossed for all of us!

hey everybody, I am new to the forum, and I have also applied for the Boren Scholarship
The country I am planning on attending for study abroad is Russia, and I am hoping to go for a full year :)

Word on the street is that if you receive an email from Boren asking you to update your budget info, it means you either will win or be an alternate. I know that some people who applied for the fellowship have received that email today, but I have not heard from an undergrad scholarship applicant who has received anything yet. Keep an eye out for that email and please post here with any news!

I received an email from Boren on Friday, but it was just to take a survey on the application process and to say that notifications would be made in early May. I hope i get that email asking for budget info then  maybe the fellowship applicants have already begun to receive those emails because their application deadline was before the scholarship applicants.

I received an email this morning from Boren asking to update my budget information!

omg, congrats!!! i’m so jealous, lol!
