You have touched on my biggest problem with UVa, while there may be a number of people of different circles, they tend to stick within their own circles. There is a lot of diversity technically, but it seems like there is little interaction racially and socially.

It seems like a lot of state schools have circles, especially with race. I'm of Indian (East) decent, and I went to a private school that was predominantly white. Most of my friends are white, and although I now have a lot of Indian friends (in college), it would be weird to just get sucked into the racial circles of the school. I don't think it's going to affect my decision to apply, but it does kind of change my mind in terms of actually attending. I guess there are people who cross circles though...I'd be one of them.

I'm glad that the students are "VERY supportive" of the sports teams. I grew up watching march madness, college football, etc. I really want to be a part of that environment. Knock out those Duke Blue Devils. >:)

Yeah, attendance at football and basketball games is high, and the extent to which alumni support athletics is isane. There is even a club called the wahooligans that are die hard UVa soccer fans.

If you are one of them, then we are in need of more people like you :). The indian and asian crowds tend to stick together in their respective clubs. I guess I can understand that it is nice to be around people that you can relate to, but its about balance. I would probably go crazy if I spent all my time around preppy white people, or really any one group.

At my current school, one of my best friends is on the soccer team. I go to every home game possible. It's freakin' awesome! I used to go to the football games, but it's DIII. I'd be all over the sporting events though if I went to UVA.

Yeah, I was worried about that...(the Indian/Asian thing). Yeah, I don't really like to stick to a set group of friends either.
