Boring

So when I went back to school this past semester I kinda forgot about this place that used to keep me occupied when work was slow over the summer. I'm sure there were interesting and genuine questions regarding the University during the fall but it's no fun coming in to see thread after thread of "chance me."

These threads are no fun to troll. Maybe I'm old school, and this is the new way people do the research about schools and how they fit, but when I had applied it was not very difficult to find the information about class breakdowns, profiles and the like to see how I stood among my peers who were applying/those who had been recently enrolled.

l2p imo

Maybe if I am bored enough I'll go way back and see what I can dig up.

^Seconded. I understand everyone's anxious and needs reassurance, but really, page after page of them is just.. depressing.

Wazhoom, I for one would appreciate your doing that.

Thanks

I think the boring element came when ED was eliminated at UVA. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but there's just nothing to talk about right now. Boring is right. April 1 is a long way away. There will be some excitement with likely letters and Echols/Rodman notification, but I think that comes in February.
The UNC-CH site is jumping with excitement right now!!! So is Michigan.
Ain't no such thing here, sorry to say.
PS: I've been away for a few days without my computer laptop friend---I was up for checking things out since I've been gone>>>>>>Needless to say, there was not so much here..................I'd like to say that "the party broke up"! But I'm not so sure there was any party this season. What's up with that????!!

Ok fine then I;ll ask geniunie questions.

1.How are parties? How strict are the RA's on the alcohol policy?
2.What is the beer game of choice? Beer pong?
3.What are some concerts in the UVA area that prospective students can look to?
4.Any avid Super Smash brothers players?
5.How are club/intramural sports particularly water polo, basketball, racquetball?
6.How is the food?

Well, Ok, some action!!

Parties are abundant! And, good, but people need to be careful. It can be so much fun, however, I've seen student friends who have really hurt themselves academically. And, legally, with citations for alcohol possession <under age. The RA's in my dorm are quite serious, but others are lax elsewhere.

I don't drink, nor play any such games. That's just me.

I saw Bob Dylan this past fall, and the Police/Sting in early winter>>Very Nice!!

Maybe I'm just not informed, but don't know what Super Smash Bros. is?
5.? I went out for Intra-mural tennis and thought I was pretty good>>>NOT!! I advanced through the first rounds then dropped.

It's good, for First Year students. They are the ones who live on grounds and eat at the cafeterias. Next year I'll live in an apt. and will catch-as-catch can in terms of meals.
UVA's a great place!!

Seems like it is.

How do OOS students fit in?
Can people usually tell who is OOS or do they just blend right in?

I'm OOS and have had no problem fitting in!

1.The parties are what they are. UVA takes pride in its parties.

2.Beer Pong is THE game, but people play various games. I, for one, prefer Flipcup.

3.In the next 4 months, John Paul Jones Arena (JPJ) will host Blue Man Group, Van Halen, Micheal Buble, Kieth Urban and Carrie Underwood, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. For dates and ticket prices, check here.

4.I used to beast in Smash, but got rusty. I play when I can, especially with my frat brothers. My frat's president is having a Smash party the first weekend Brawl comes out. If you're interested, PM me.

5.Intramural sports is like a serious league here at UVA. People get really competitive in these games. I really can't talk about water polo, but basketball is something else.

6.The dining hall food lacks favor. Get a meal plan with a lot of plus dollars (UVA's "special" money) and eat at the Pav or Crossroads. I went to the dining halls like twice last semester mainly because friends wanted to eat there.

OOS students hardly stand out. I have good friends from all over the country and hardly consider what region of the country, or world, they hail from.

I heard otherwise about the food, that is actually sucks. "O'Hell" ring a bell?

Don't know how true that actually is though.

And are we Northeasterners the only ones who refer to beer pong as "beirut?"

O'Hell No is a whole other thing. They half ass everything so the food that lacks favor has health risks. I have friends who tell me they get pink raw chicken from grills more often than not.

I know northeasterners who prefer to call it "Beer Pong." So it's a matter of choice.

Is the food good at Pav or Crossroads? What are some examples of common meals? Is the food healthy? not like salads but like wraps and stuff with lean meat.

Is the school preppy? (just want to know if it fit in lol)

Do people ever get arrested for drinking with?

Do you think I will get in? (JKJK of course)

A brawl part sounds awesome.

The Pav, Crossroads, and the Castle (forgot about that one) have a variety of things. The Pav is a mini food court deal with a Pizza Hut Express, Chik-fli-A, Freshens Smoothie, sushi, salad place, and sandwich place with wraps and the like. Crossroads is a convenience store with a grill for burgers, a mini Sabaro, and a different sandwich place. The Castle is a smaller Crossroads with the good sub shop called Claymore's which has a medieval motif with sandwiches' names taken from Arthurian legend or just random things like "Rook."

There is a concentration of prep at UVA, but it hardly makes the school preppy.

If you are caught drinking in the residence halls, you would just get a vsoc, a violation of social conduct, depending on how tough your RA is. I remember drinking beers with my RA.

To tell you the truth, I was not sure I was going to get into UVA when I applied.

The Smash party is going to involve all three versions. One setup of N64 for nostalgia, one setup of Melee for players a degree less than psycho pros, one setup of Melee for those psycho pros, one setup of Brawl with any kind of controller, and one setup of Brawl using only wiimotes for a leveling off for noobs and pros. Drinks may be provided. -nudge- -nudge- The party will be insane or insane.

Eww Melee pretty much sucks. The original was so much better.

Everything seems so balanced at UVA (sports, academics, fun).

thanks for the info dude.

this thread wins.

btw college hopeful, yes there are lots of awesome smash players! One of the best ranked in the country actually attended uva, and the guys in gamers club can all hold their own. There is at least one person who owns with any given character in gamers club. Even the lesser known like Peach. Watching Sheik get pwnd by Peach is just funny.

Anyways Smash is always huge at the gamers club meetings and gamers club festival. You should come join gamers if you come here, its a blast, we also have some people that are awesome at GH (i'll include myself in that list ;) ). Gamers club is just awesome all the way around, but Smash is probably the most popular game. Then again everyone loves the random games thrown in now and again (like Pac Man Vs.)

And yeah, people play the original as well but it's mostly melee. I have a feeling it will be over to Brawl when that comes out.

The food is bearable. That is all.

MALEX, PM me the info about the Brawl party. I'm so there! I can't freaking wait for that game.

This is a good thread! April 1st is too far away and I definitely need something other than admissions to think about!

So when I visited I picked up a copy of the Cavalier Daily. How does one go about getting involved in the newspaper? Do alot of people on campus read it? I know at my high school a select few read it but it's not as widely circulated as I would like it to be, we always have tons of extra copies! I'd think this would be different in college though! So any comments on the Cavalier Daily? Thanks!

There are usually info sessions in the beginning of the year on how to get involved in stuff like the Cav Daily. There are plenty of people who read the Cav Daily since it has articles that people would want to read and comics that don't suck. The only drawback is the Nation & World section which is a farce. The Cav Daily is a newspaper that is taken more seriously than a high school newspaper.

Yeah they have a booth set up at the club info sessions at the beginning of each year where they recruit people. A ton of people read it, many just for the comics (or maybe thats just the circles I run in) or just to make fun of the opinion section.

How involved is the student body? Do you find the campus to be diverse racially, socially, and just in terms of people in general? How is greek life? How supportive of the sports teams are the students?

Lastly, it's beirut, not beer pong!
