Boston College Admission Chances Class of 2022 (Early Decision/CSOM)

Hi I am a junior in high school. College applications are just around the corner and my dream school is Boston College. I go to a Catholic private school in Florida. My school has quite a good relationship with Boston College. For example, one year BC admitted 15 students from my school. I would like to apply early decision (I understand this is binding). I would like to major in finance at the CSOM, which is more competitive than Arts/Science. I would love input on my chances?

Gender: Female
GPA: 3.95 (unweighted)
ACT: (going to superscore but still testing so it is not set it stone)
Extracurriculars: 500 service hours; National Honors Society; Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honors Society); Lacrosse (9,10) due to an injury; JCL (Latin club) (10-12); Medical Professionals Club (10-12); Service Project for the fires in Tennessee

Summer Activities: A camp for 1 week where I take care of those with special needs (have done this for 3 years); doing a BC summer program this summer for 3 weeks (They say on the website that this does not increase chances for admission but my friend went there last year for a summer program and they said it does increase their chances)

Teacher Recommendations: Going to be my Latin teacher whom I will have had for four years in total throughout high school; The Vice Principal who will be my Psychology AP teacher senior year whom I have a good relationship with

Additional Recommendations: The Principal (good relationship)
Ethnicity: Asian
Essay: Will be about being adopted from China by a single mother (the whole thing will not be about it but it will be the foundation)

Senior Course Load: AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Psychology, Religion Honors (required), AP Latin

Additional Notes:

  • I was debating whether to take AP Psychology or AP Physics senior year. I understand Physics is a core science. However, I really wanted to treat myself and take AP Psychology because it seems interesting and I know the teacher very well. This means I will have 3 years of a science (biology honors, chemistry honors, 1/2 credit of marine biology honors (summer school for credits), 1/2 credit of physics honors (summer school for credits)
  • Do you think having 3 years of a science will hurt my application even though I do not want to major in science?
  • I will have 4 years of Latin including AP

Boston college only has early action, which is non binding. The fact that your school sends a lot of kids to bc should be helpful, though that could also mean more kids apply to bc than an average school. Also you should aim for around a 33 ACT

CSOM is incredibly difficult to get into. Many kids don’t get into CSOM but get into WashU or ND. Just something to keep in mind

Hi @ngiord13 - my son got EA (early action) from BC’s CSOM for 2021. Spend time on your Subject Tests & SAT or ACT scores to present your best by the 11/1 deadline. Khan Academy offers a free resource - and you can plug in your PSAT score to get tailored assignments. It helps you are not from the Northeast. Also, it doesn’t hurt to work a job this summer too (versus a pay-to-attend program). My son’s stats were top 7% Texas private school, National Merit Finalist (so a Semi when he applied last fall), 1490 new SAT, 34 ACT, 770s + Subject Tests Math & Chem. Worked all last summer & every Saturday this fall at a grocery store & incorporated it in Common App essay.

I got into CSOM for finance this year with no subject tests, just make sure you are well rounded with clubs and activities as they seem to like that. I had a 94.89 uw and 103.73 w with a 32 ACT and was 3rd in my class. I think the fact that you go to a catholic school will help you very much and i think your odds are good, just don’t stress! If I was to give you one tip, in your essays talk abut why you love knowledge and learning and throw religion in there too. The only thing going against you is that you are Asian, which sadly is a reality because of affirmative action which makes it more competitive for you. But all in all, if you get at least a 31 and write killer essays I think ill see you next year!

BC is a roulette wheel. Your info looked my daughter’s this year and waitlisted despite she would be 3rd generation legacy. Honestly, there are many programs that are far superior to BC and I am SOM legacy. Don’t get hung up on one school; we didn’t and will have a decision to make shortly. Sadly, BC is still very lacking with assistance with internships and Fulton Hall is lacking other business schools as far as the business building.

@charlieFL “there are many programs that are far superior to BC”. It seems most ranking surveys would disagree with your personal opinion, as would the top hiring firms in the Northeast. I am not sure the specifics that are lacking in Fulton Hall. Seems your post is strictly personal opinion and not factually based.

what is your math sub-score? B-schools in general like strong math scores since B-schools can be quantitative.

Three years of science should not be a problem, BUT while you have a lot of senior classes, they are mostly so-called AP Lites. Only Lit and Latin count in the all-important rigor category.

Calc AB, Psych, Gov, & Econ are essentially one-semester courses, even if they are offered over the course of a year. Are you strong in math? Can you take BC, which B-schools like to see?
