Wow… I have not checked this thread in a while but I am so grateful to see all this amazing analysis and information!

I called the BC admissions office yesterday to ask them about the yield for this year’s incoming freshman class. They told me that it was way too early to have official statistics on the matter. I went on to ask her if she knew anything about if she thought the yield would be higher or lower this year - again, she said she didn’t know. I will continue calling and asking for updated information on the yield to hopefully provide some sort of useful information to my fellow waitlisted applicants!

@Jencourt - I also applied to BC’s business school and was waitlisted. I think we might have more problems than other people who didnt apply to the business school. This year, BC’s business school got ranked as #6 in the nation. Unfortunately, this means that the yield for the business school might go up, as Boston College divides their waitlist into each of its undergraduate divisions. I truly, truly, truly hope this is not the case, but I am prepared for the worst possible case-scenario.

I honestly hope I get off this waitlist - I am NOT a fan of the school I put my enrollment deposit to, and I know that I will for sure end up transferring elsewhere after a year. BC is my dream school!

Has anyone been pulled from the wait list yet?? And how will they contact us- via email? phone call? Does anyone know??? I am so eager to hear-

Also has anyone heard about competitive schools (villa nova, G town, N Dame ) do they all have wait lists ? seems like the competition this year is very tough!

I heard it was through snail mail just like how the regular decisions came. However some people did say that they had received phone calls asking if they were still interested in coming.

Jencourt: It is more difficult to get off the waitlist for CSOM precisely because of what Jdevv10.

Shhsel: what exactly do you mean that “some people did say that they had received phone calls asking if they were still interested in coming?” Who are these people? Are they accepted students who are being asked if they are going or waitlisted students who are being asked if they wish to remain in the waitlist or waitlisted students being pulled out of the waitlist? Could you clarify…this is important information you’ve got here.

Well, the real notification of acceptances come through snail mail and couple days before the mail actually comes, people see an extra tab on their agora portals (according to other threads of previous years). Additionally, BC sometimes call students beforehand just to verify if he or she is still interested in attending BC so that they would not have to waste an acceptance to someone that is not even interested in attending. The BC counselor that I spoke with said he personally calls all of his wailistees. Although, I believe this is specific to his case as some posters do not recall a phone call and only received an envelope.

So, depending on one’s specific counselor’s agenda, a call can mean acceptance or it can be a checkup so they they can see who is still interested.

Students getting the call are students on the wait list.

I would think a call would mean good news because BC would like to know if you are interested because they are still interested in you. This last part is my speculation.

Another quick update, no one I know has received the phone call as of today. These “other people” were people of the previous year. It is only May 3rd, so BC may still be calculating their yields. All my friends were accepted to BC, but are not going to attend.

Shhsel: So what you are making reference to are experiences of folks who had been waitlisted last year? Ok, valuable information. But I was freaking out thinking that BC was already calling /contacting waitlisters.

Another question: why are your friends not going to BC? ie which schools are they going to instead?

They are going to UCLA and Georgetown. One wants to stay close to home because her twin sister is going to attend Cal State Long Beach while the other one found Georgetown to suit her more.

Oh, and I was rereading some posts from Boston College 2012 wait list students and most if not all heard by May 15th. So, I would assume that if the letters came by May 15th, phone calls would come even earlier. :)

S just heard from Vanderbilt…taken off the wait list! Hopefully, for those who are waiting to hear from BC, they aren’t far behind with their decisions…Good luck everyone!

Collegetimesfour: congratulations! Assuming your S is going to Vanderbilt! How did VU contact u? Mail, phone, email?

BC waitlisters: I’m curious to know what are your qualifications? GPA? Test scores? AP’s EC’ etc?? Has anyone heard confirmation from admissions that they will be pulling from the wait list? I hope it’s this week- I am getting a bit anxious…I did hear from a few students that they pulled themselves off the wait let at BC and decided to go elsewhere since they thought the would not get called from the wait list.
Comments?

BC Waitisters: what are your back up schools? Were did you send your deposit if BC doesn’t come through?

Anyone have updates on when they’ll be notifying us? And if BC doesn’t work out I’ll be attending UCSD.

petreavolubilis: Thanks! We were expecting to ?maybe hear something on Thursday…it seems this was a surprise for everyone. He received an email with a request for him to reply a.s.a.p. It stated that if there was no response by Tuesday at ?5:00, they would consider him not interested in the opening. (Of course, he responded within the first 5 minutes - I just wonder that since he was given the ?first wave of offers, does that mean that there is a greater chance of a bigger financial aid award? Fingers crossed…

My S had actually put his deposit down at Univ. of Pittsburgh. They offered full tuition and since they were allowing him nearly 60 credits to enter, he was thinking about traveling abroad the last year and 1/2 before going to graduate school. But… he wasn’t excited to attend and he was so happy to hear from Vanderbilt!

Any news? I emailed them a couple of days ago and I didn’t get a reply…Anyone did the same?

I called the admissions office earlier today to ask them if they have any statistics in regards to the yield of this year’s incoming class and they told me that “we will not know about the yield until mid may and we will start letting waitlisted applicants know by mid may as well”

Only a few more days…

Did the admissions Dept sound as if they would be pulling from the wait list? You think it will happen by May 15?? Did they say by email or regular mail?

This silence…can only mean one thing…

What does everyone think? Now really…let’s think this: Do you think that the yield this year was high, medium, or low???

My prediction is that the yield this year is …

low.

For all of the reasons that I mentioned in my previous posts. By this date, last year they were already notifying WLs. Why? Because yield was high and they had very few spots to cover.

This year? my prediction? BC is regrouping to see who to send acceptance letters to (why letters? I predict that they will use letters to make waitlisters feel nice after being put in waitlist at least I am sure many waitlisters would like to receive letters instead of just a flat out generic email - I am sure my D would like to receive a letter) because they almost have to start all over again. Now the question is: how will they go out determining which WL students to accept? Will they send acceptance letters to all those in the waitlist (which at this point may not be many like Jencourt suspects in an earlier comment)? What about those who have demonstrated interest - will this be taken into consideration as well?
