Hey guys!

Just turned in my early application for BC yesterday. Anyone else apply early and want to share stats, chance each other, talk about results when they come out, etc.?

Anyone know when decisions came out last year? Do we get an email?

Dear sungjong : When decisions are released many weeks from now, please do provide us with an update on your application status. The reasons for asking are several fold and I certainly hope that my assessment that follows is wrong. Your GPA/class rank is concerning at Top 40% when we know that 85% of the Boston College accepted class is Top 10% from their High School class and 96% are from the Top 25%. When you add your ACT writing score (25) and a lack of senior year Science and Foreign Language (counting Shakespeare as English and Bible Studies as social science/history), it is very possible your application will be seen below the cut line for the EA round. Good luck and please provide an update.

Dear joshuali : In your case, the SAT I scores (CR:610, Writing:660) are cause for pause in the EA round although your AP distribution appears strong. Given your concern over English language skills, perhaps this has downwardly impacted some of your AP scores? It is impressive to see Differential Equations on a scholastic profile, but the essay skills will be critically analyzed in your application and that might be an issue. Were your essays critically reviewed?

Dear fflzataraa : Your numbers are a match for the EA round although the details on your academic program are hard to gauge.

Best of luck to all three of you and to the entire group of aspiring Class of 2020 (cannot believe I am actually writing that year) Boston College Eagles.

@themarchrabbit Ahh you do? Itā€™s Infiniteā€™s Sungjong ;u;

@scottj Yeah, I do realize that my GPA does put me in a bad position. I didnā€™t do very well in freshman year, but managed to pull it up slightly over the last few years. Iā€™m applying as a math major, maxed out my foreign language in sophomore year, and didnā€™t want to take any senior science electives this year (took AP Chem junior year and hate physics). Iā€™ll definitely update you on my stats. Thanks!

@scottj Thanks for your comment. Yes, my poor English skill definitely impacted my AP especially for history and SAT. I have scored a 101 on TOEFL and hopefully it can demonstrate my reading, listening, speaking, and writing skill in English. I have worked on my PS since the summer and several people was helping me out. So I am pretty confident with my writing!

Pretty nervous-BC is my #1

I read that BC recommends four years of coursework in a foreign language and noticed that at least two of the EA applicants above do not list any foreign language their senior year. Does not having four years of foreign language negatively impact an application or is it just a minor consideration if the rest of the application is strong?

I took Spanish 7th - 11th. So that is actually five years of foreign language. Had to take an art elective Sr. year, so dropped Spanish to do it. Otherwise I couldnā€™t graduate as I needed an art elective. Could be why you donā€™t see people taking Spanish Sr. year.

Dear dreambig2018 : Boston College admissions wants to see four years in Mathematics, Science, History, English, and Foreign Language. Once those are present, they want to be sure that the student is taking as aggressive an agenda as possible - meaning AP/IB courses in most cases, not just ā€œhonorsā€ courses (unless that is the highest level at your school).

When one (or more) of these elements are missing, it leaves a gap in the application which can lead to deferral or rejection. So, when you ask if it is negative, one cannot be sure ā€¦ but I can tell you for sure that it is NOT a positive.

I wonder if BC considers it a gap to only have 3 years of a foreign language, when you are already fluent/proficient in another non-English language. My son is a junior and does not want to take year 4 of a language. There are other AP courses he wants to take instead and he is proficient in another language (grandparents native language). Iā€™m trying to decide how much to fight him on this come spring registration for Sr year.

Iā€™m not taking a foreign language this year but taking double math. Does that affect my application in any wayā€¦? I already maxed out my AP science classes so I wanted to do the same for math. (yeah my school doesnā€™t have that many options lol) Iā€™m applying to the school of nursing so I thought math and science would matter more.

and foreign language was my worst class lol so I just dropped it and my counselor recommended me dropping and taking double math too.

Donā€™t panic @suzyQ7 and @themarchrabbit , you will be looked at individually and with regards to your entire ā€œpackageā€ of courses, grades, etc. My daughter took a college level (not even honors) English course instead of AP Lit senior year because she was taking 4 other AP classes (Calc, Econ, Spanish and Environ. Science) and English was, by far, her least favorite class. She was accepted EA in to CSOM (honors program) and is now a freshman and absolutely LOVING BC. Thinking good thoughts for you all!! :slight_smile:

Anyone have any more info on when weā€™ll get results? I got an email saying theyā€™ll be released the week of the 14th, but does that mean they go out in waves or will be sent at midnight?

@viola627 they just released transfer & spring 2016 decisions. On their twitter they had said that they were probably going to release them next week, but they got released today. Iā€™m wondering if that pushes up our decisions by a week as well. Iā€™m hoping so!!

@graacein19 i hope so too!!
