@Emsmom1, no, it’s not a big deal. It would be junior year when they live off campus. Mine got four years of housing, and one chose to live off campus junior year with friends. Also, many go abroad for one or two semesters junior year and find this arrangement good. As for costs, it came out to be about the same, maybe even slightly less expensive, it depends on how many roommates there are and such factors. Seemed all were very anxious, however, to return to living on campus for senior year!
@collegecarla thanks for the info!
Wait- so it’s common for them to live off junior year and come back for senior year? And they can do that with the guaranteed three year housing? I assumed it had to be consecutive years they lived on campus.

Essays (rating 1-10, details): Common App: 9, very very personal/raw (subject confidential), worked through it for several months with numerous English teachers; BC Supplement: 6 honestly, very rushed and I thought it sucked
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 10, from an English teacher who had me 10th grade and now, highlights so many qualities inside/outside of school, very good letter
Teacher Rec #2: 8/9, from sophomore year Euro teacher (first AP teacher), focuses mainly on academics
Counselor Rec: 7/8 I’m guessing, don’t know counselor well but I would assume they talked mostly about my rank/school stuff
Additional Rec: 8, from my VP – I am the only one in my school to have received a letter of rec from him and his position in the school system is honorable, talks a lot about academic achievement

Yes, the way it’s usually done is the first two years on campus, junior year off campus, then back to living on campus for senior year. Senior year on campus is a great time for them.

Counselor Rec: 8/10, my counselor got switched this year so I had to get to know her in one year as opposed to four which was a bit of a pain, but at the beginning of the year I had some scheduling issues and personal problems and she helped a lot and so our relationship is pretty good
Additional Rec: 10/10, art teacher - I’m the first person from my 60 year-old school to even win a regional gold award from scholastics, so when I managed a national medal she was floored
